Tuesday's softball roundup: Lady Canes power past Cass, Adairsville and Woodland fall

CARTERSVILLE 13, CASS 0

Zoie Shiflett threw a four-inning, one-hit shutout, and Carder Brock had three hits, including a home run and three RBIs, as the Lady Canes blew past Cass 13-0 on Tuesday evening at Dellinger Park.

Shiflett allowed one hit to Cass’ Abagail Nails and did not issue a walk. She fanned three.

Cartersville scored seven runs in the third inning and six in the fourth to put the game away.

In addition to Brock’s three hits, Taryn Bradley (home run, four RBI), Izzy Tummins (double, two RBI), and Kennedy Crenshaw (sacrifice fly, RBI) each had two hits for Cartersville. Shiflett (home run, two RBI), Sophia Harper (RBI), and LaKiaya Banks (double) each added one hit. Sam Porter drove in one run with a sacrifice fly.

Kylie Gentry (2.1 IP, 7ER, 8H, 1BB, 3K), Addy Bauder (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H), and Maci Walker (0.2 IP, 6ER, 3H, 3BB) pitched for Cass.

The Lady Canes (19-2, 12-0) host Cedartown on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Cass (10-7, 7-5) has a doubleheader at Villa Rica on Thursday afternoon and will host Calhoun on Saturday at 10 a.m.

HERITAGE-CATOOSA 5, ADAIRSVILLE 2

A three-run first inning launched Heritage-Catoosa in an eventual 5-2 home win Tuesday night over Adairsville, although the Lady Tigers outhit the Lady Generals 7 to 6.

Adairsville cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the third and scored in the top of the sixth to make it 4-2, but could not get any closer.

Paislee Rooks suffered the pitching loss for the Tigers. She pitched all six innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four.

Chloe Hill had two hits and one RBI for Adairsville. Lillianne Gunter (RBI), Sydney Satterfield, Lily Brookshire, Ashlynn Durden, and Rooks each added one hit.

Heritage improved to 14-1 overall and 9-1 in Region 7-4A.

Adairsville (14-7, 7-3) hosts a non-region game with Haralson County on Wednesday at 5 p.m. before traveling to Calhoun for a region game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

VILLA RICA 13, WOODLAND 4

A seven-run fourth inning broke open a 4-2 game Tuesday evening and lifted visiting Villa Rica to a 13-4 Region 7-5A win at Woodland.

Woodland scored two runs in the second inning and two more in the fifth to make it 11-4, but Villa Rica added insurance runs in the sixth.

Bella Kuykendall (4 IP, 11R, 6ER, 12H, 1BB, 1K) and Rilynn DeBoard (2 IP, 2ER, 1H, 2BB, 2K) shared the pitching duties for Woodland in the loss.

Lillian Hollis (RBI) and Kylee Poston (RBI) had two hits each to pace the Woodland offense. Sonny Hicks (double, RBI), Jarah Thorne (RBI), Charlotte Petersen (double), and Bailey Ryan each added one hit.

Villa Rica improved to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in region play.

Woodland (7-12, 3-8) plays at Allatoona on Thursday at 6 p.m.
