Tuesday's volleyball roundup: Canes, Wildcats earn region wins

Woodland volleyball defeated Cass 25-19, 25-13, and 25-16 on Tuesday in Region 7-5A action at Cass, but lost to Pepperell in a non-region match 18-25, 24-26. The Lady Colonels also lost to Pepperell, 18-25 and 17-25.


Woodland’s Ava Lawler had 13 assists, six digs, four kills, and five aces against Cass. Dayana Jaimes finished with 12 digs and two aces. Reese Martinak totaled four kills and four digs against Cass, and Aby Childs contributed four kills, five digs, and two aces in the region match.


Alicia Nails recorded 14 kills for the Lady Colonels in their two matches. Natalie Brown added six digs.


In the Lady Cats’ loss to Pepperell, Martinak had four kills and five digs. Emily Guin produced four digs and two aces. Lawler had nine assists and seven digs. Childs totaled three kills and three digs, and Jaimes added 10 digs.


Cartersville volleyball won twice on Tuesday evening at the Storm Center, defeating Mount Paran Christian 25-22, 27-25, and region foe Allatoona in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-9.


In the five sets, Amara Ejieke totaled 28 kills and 19 digs. Adelynn England contributed 21 kills and 22 digs. Brooke Belarmino had 39 assists, and Emma Wall finished with 25 assists.


Adairsville volleyball dropped home matches Tuesday to Northwest Whitfield (20-25, 14-25) and Southeast Whitfield (28-30, 17-25). 


Alexis Scott had four kills against the Bruins. Kinzie Griffin had three blocks. Nadelyn Dodson contributed seven digs, and Teaghan Myers added six assists.


Cass (0-14) plays Stephens County and Pickens on Thursday in Jasper. Cartersville (17-1) visits Cass next Tuesday, where both the Canes and Colonels will also face Trion. Adairsville (5-10) hosts Chattooga and Sonoraville on Tuesday starting at 5 p.m.
