Tuesday soccer roundup: Cartersville teams blank Hiram, Cass and Adairsville girls earn wins
In a full slate of soccer action Tuesday night, the Cartersville girls and boys swept visiting Hiram with shutout victories in Region 7-5A play.
Cass split non-region games with visiting North Murray at Cochran Stadium; Adairsville split Region 6-3A matches at Ringgold; and the Woodland girls were shutout at Kennesaw Mountain in non-region play.
CASS GIRLS 2, NORTH MURRAY 1
The Lady Colonels led 1-0 at the intermission and matched goals with the visiting Mountaineers in the second half Tuesday night to earn a 2-1 non-region match at Cochran Stadium.
Yuridia Villea-Diaz and Morgan Tompkins scored the Lady Colonels’ goals.
North Murray slips to 5-6 on the season with their loss.
Cass (3-8-1, 0-3 Region 7-5A) returns to region play Friday in Roswell at top-ranked Blessed Trinity.
NORTH MURRAY 1, CASS BOYS 0
After battling scoreless through the first half, the visiting Mountaineers scored the game’s only goal in the second half to defeat the Colonels, 1-0.
North Murray improved to 6-4 on the season with the victory.
Cass (8-4-1, 2-1 Region 7-5A) plays at 8th-ranked Blessed Trinity Friday at 5:30 p.m.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 8, HIRAM 0
The Lady Canes shutout visiting Hiram Tuesday night, 8-0, in Region 7-5A action.
Hattie Williams, Abbey Craig and Macy Nicklas combined for seven goals and five assists to lead the Cartersville girls to the 100th victory of coach Chad Murray's tenure.
Cartersville (4-7-1, 2-1) plays at Woodland Friday at 5:30 p.m.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 4, HIRAM 0
The Cartersville boys picked up an important Region 7-5A win at home Tuesday night over Hiram, 4-0.
Antonio Garcia scored an early goal for the Canes as Cartersville took a 1-0 lead to the intermission. Marvel Velasquez, Alex Rios, and Kaden Anderson each scored in the second half.
Cartersville (6-6-1, 1-2) plays at Woodland Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 2, RINGGOLD 0
Following a scoreless struggle through the games first 66 minutes, Adairsville’s Emma Collins broke the ice with a goal off her own corner kick to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, Elle Causby found the net off an assist from Kaylee Jordan and Adairsville held on to earn a Region 6-AAA win at Ringgold, 2-0.
Adairsville keeper, Annie McCormick, was credited for her efforts Tuesday and defender Mia Scott was credited with multiple key stops on counterattacks.
Ringgold falls to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in region games.
The Adairsville girls (7-2-1, 3-2) travel to Murray County Friday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
RINGGOLD BOYS 2, ADAIRSVILLE 0
The Adairsville boys were shutout at Ringgold Tuesday night, 2-0, dropping their season record to 4-8 and region mark to 1-4.
KENNESAW MOUNTAIN 10, WOODLAND GIRLS 0
The Lady Cats were shutout at Kennesaw Mountain Tuesday night 10-0 in a non-region contest.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 5-8.
Woodland (5-5-2, 1-2) has a region home match Friday with Cartersville.
