Tuesday volleyball roundup: Cartersville stays unbeaten in Region 7-5A, Cass tops Woodland
In local volleyball action Tuesday night, Cartersville defeated Dalton in straight sets to remain unbeaten in Region 7-5A action. The Lady Canes also dropped a non-region match with Lassiter at the Storm Center.
Cass split a pair of region matches. The Lady Colonels beat Woodland but lost to Calhoun.
Woodland lost twice on the evening in a pair of three set matches. The Lady Cats won the opening set matches against Cass and Hiram, but lost the final two sets for region losses.
Adairsville also fell twice in region matches at home, falling to Bremen and LaFayette.
CARTERSVILLE SPLITS HOME MATCHES, STAYS UNBEATEN IN REGION PLAY
Cartersville volleyball edged visiting Dalton 25-23 and 26-24 in straight sets Tuesday night at the Storm Center to earn a Region 7-5A victory, but lost their non-region match with Lassiter in straight sets, 25-19 and 25-10.
Lauren Lawson had 11 kills and Ailee England finished with nine kills and nine digs in the win over Dalton. Tennessee Abernathy contributed three blocks and had five kills. Lily Gochee added 30 assists against the Catamounts.
In the loss to Lassiter, Lawson had seven kills. Abernathy totaled four kills and one block. Mia Nicklaus and Riley Jarrett contributed six digs each with Gochee adding 15 assists.
Cartersville (17-12, 3-0 Region 7-5A) has a road match at Marietta Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. and will open play against Adairsville Saturday morning in the Bartow County Championship Tournament hosted by Cass.
CASS EDGES WOODLAND IN THREE SETS, FALLS TO CALHOUN
Cass volleyball won at Woodland Tuesday night in three sets for a Region 7-5A victory, then fell to region foe Calhoun in straight sets.
Woodland won the opening set 25-22 before Cass took Sets 2 and 3, 25-23 and 15-8.
Calhoun’s win over Cass was 25-12, 25-12.
Sophomore Tamira Feanny had nine kills on the night for the Lady Colonels. Caidence Woolridge, also a sophomore, totaled 14 digs while junior Carlee Turner added a block and a pair of block assists.
Cass (9-16-1, 1-3) will host the Bartow County Championship Tournament Saturday.
WOODLAND DROPS MATCH WITH HIRAM
The Lady Cats won the opening set against visiting Hiram Tuesday night, but lost the final two sets and the Region 7-5A match with scores of 25-12 and 15-7 over the final two sets.
Combined stats for Woodland (including the match loss to Cass): Kendall Condon had 19 assists, eight digs, and three aces. Kailynn Mullinax finished with four kills, four aces, and four assists. Lili Womack totaled 20 digs and one kill. Bailee Motes was credited with 12 digs, four kills, and two aces. Anastyn Jones had seven kills and five digs while Madison West contributed seven kills in the doubleheader.
Woodland (4-19-1, 0-4) plays in the Bartow County Championship Tournament Saturday at Cass.
ADAIRSVILLE VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN REGION MATCHES
The Lady Tigers lost a pair of Region 6-AAA matches Tuesday night at home — falling to Bremen 25-8, 25-17 and LaFayette 25-21, 25-22.
Richlyn Blair had four kills; Sherry Wells contributed eight digs; and Annie McCormick had five assists in the Bremen match.
Against LaFayette, Blair finished with eight kills, seven digs, and one block. Jenna Claire Hendley finished with three kills and three blocks. McCormick totaled eight assists and Wells added nine digs.
Adairsville (8-14-2, 1-5 in Region 6-AAA) hosts non-region matches with Dalton and Coosa Thursday starting at 5 p.m. and will play in the Bartow County Championship Tournament Saturday at Cass.
