Volleyball roundup: Canes sweep region openers

CARTERSVILLE TOPS DALTON AND WOODLAND
The Lady Canes volleyball team won a pair of Region 7-4A matches on Tuesday evening at Woodland. Cartersville topped the host Wildcats in straight sets, 25-2 and 25-7. The Lady Canes also defeated Dalton in three sets, 18-25, 25-23, and 15-7.
Cartersville (13-5, 2-0) plays at Marietta in a non-region match on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Woodland (2-10, 0-1) heads to Summerville on Thursday to play Model at 6 p.m. and host Chattooga at 7 p.m.
ADAIRSVILLE SPLITS REGION MATCHES
The Lady Tigers defeated host Ridgeland but lost to LaFayette on Tuesday night.
Adairsville beat Ridgeland 25-17, 25-22. LaFayette topped the Tigers 25-20, 25-15.
In the win over Ridgeland, Addie Pearson had five kills, two aces, seven assists, and 14 digs. Myka Colston finished with four kills. Ansley Mims had four blocks. Alivia Wynn distributed eight assists with two service aces. Delaney Baxter contributed 17 digs.
In the Adairsville loss to LaFayette, Alexis Scott led the Lady Tigers’ front line with five kills. Steward and Mims had three blocks. Pearson totaled four assists and Baxter added 10 digs.
CASS DROPS REGION OPENER
The Cass High volleyball team lost its region opening match in three sets on Tuesday evening to Hiram.
The Lady Colonels won the opening set 27-25 before the Hornets won the final two sets 25-18 and 15-10.
Hiram improved to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-4A. Cass (3-6, 0-1) plays at Allatoona on September 5 where they will also take on Cartersville.
