Wildcats, Canes, and Colonels add Tuesday night region wins

The Woodland, Cartersville, and Cass boys' basketball teams won Region 7-4A games Tuesday night and await their seeding for the region tournament at Allatoona next week. Meanwhile, at Adairsville, the Tigers dropped a region tilt with Calhoun.



WOODLAND BOYS 54, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 27

The Wildcats closed out the regular season schedule Tuesday night at Southeast Whitfield with a 54-27 victory in Dalton.


Woodland led 23-14 at halftime and expanded the lead in the second half. The Wildcats were up 36-16 at the end of the third quarter.


Bryson Van Tonder scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats’ scoring column. Caiden Moore followed with 16 points. Isaiah Livsey and Carmello Morris added six and five points, respectively.


Brayden Johnson scored 12 points for Southeast Whitfield (0-23, 0-13).


Next for Woodland (6-19, 2-12) is an opening-round game in the Region 7-4A Tournament. Allatoona will host the tournament.






CARTERSVILLE BOYS 60, CEDARTOWN 42

The Hurricanes locked up the No. 3 seed in next week’s Region 7-4A tournament Tuesday night with a 60-42 home win over Cedartown.


Cartersville led 29-19 at the intermission and pushed the lead to 50-28 by the end of the third quarter en route to an 18-point victory at the Storm Center.


Nas Bennett scored 12 points with eight rebounds and three assists in the Canes’ win. Wyatt Thomason finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Kaden Baldwin scored 10 points, and Kyron McClendon added nine for the Hurricanes.


Zane Diamond Pasley scored 14 points for Cedartown (13-12, 6-8).


The Canes (14-10, 9-4) will wrap up regular season play Wednesday at Southeast Whitfield in a 6:30 p.m. tip.



CASS BOYS 59, HIRAM 51


The Colonels led at the end of each period Tuesday night and held off a fourth-quarter charge by host Hiram for a 59-51 Region 7-4A road win.


Cass led 14-10 after the opening eight minutes, 34-22 at halftime, and 43-33 at the end of the third quarter.


Xavier Lowe and Jason Brown scored 17 points to lead the Colonels. Dylan Miller added 13 points in the victory.


Dino Loyd was the top scorer for the Hornets with 16 points. AJ Williams finished with 10 and King Wilcox nine points for Hiram (9-15, 7-7).


Cass (10-14, 6-8) awaits seeding for the Region 7-4A tournament that begins next week at Allatoona High School.



CALHOUN 72, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 64


A hot-shooting third quarter helped lift visiting Calhoun in a 72-64 win Tuesday night at Adairsville in a battle of Region 7-AAA leaders.


The Yellow Jackets led 31-22 at halftime and extended their advantage to 53-37 by the end of the third period. Adairsville cut the Calhoun lead to five points in the final quarter but couldn’t quite chase down the Yellow Jackets.


Trace Hawkins led Calhoun with 21 points. Jace Johnson scored 16, and Jaxon Moore had 14 points.


Tre Winters led the Adairsville scoring column with 23 points. Ben Abernathy and Xavious Nalls added 15 points for the Tigers.


Calhoun improved to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in region play.


Adairsville (14-9, 9-2) plays a non-region game Thursday at Darlington (7:30 p.m.) and completes region play Friday night at LaFayette (8:30 p.m.)
