Wildcats finish fourth at Class AAAAA State Tournament
The state playoff run for the Woodland Lady Cats softball team came to an end Saturday afternoon with a 6-0 loss to Loganville at the Olympic Softball Complex in Columbus.
Woodland finished the Class 5A Elite Eight State Tournament 2-2 and finished the 2021 season with a 19-15-2 mark and a fourth place finish.
The playoff run by Woodland included best-of-three series sweeps over St. Pius X and Wayne County to reach the Elite Eight in Columbus.
The Wildcats lost their tournament opener Thursday night to defending state champ Starr’s Mill, 4-0, then bounced back Friday to defeat Calhoun (5-4) and Jones County (11-0) to reach the tournament’s Final Four.
Loganville scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the fifth to secure their win.
Woodland was limited to only two hits in the loss. One hit each by Cassie Jones and Michiah Hicks.
Loganville (30-7) reaches the Final Three along with Northside-Columbus and Starr’s Mill.
