Wildcats finish sweep of Dalton


The Wildcats scored four runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth inning to take Thursday’s first game against Dalton, 7-0.


Ayden Ray (7 IP, 0R, 2H, 2BB, 9K) silenced the Catamount bats with a complete game effort on the mound. He gave up just two hits and two walks while fanning nine.


Seven different Wildcats had at least one hit each.


Mason Williams finished with two hits and one RBI. Conner Lujan (triple, 3 RBIs), Chase Carson (triple), Rowan Billings, Julian Wright (RBI), Connor Stermer (RBI), and Brett Good (RBI) contributed one hit each.


WOODLAND 6, DALTON 4


In Thursday night’s second game, the Wildcats posted six runs across the first four innings and then held off a late threat by the Catamounts for a 6-4 win and a three-game sweep of the series with Dalton.


Austin Daves (4 IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 4K) went the first four innings on the mound to collect the pitching win for the Wildcats. Hunter Shirley (2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 3K) tossed the fifth and sixth innings. Coby Barrett (0.1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 2BB, 1K) started the seventh and Ayden Ray (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K) struck out two in the seventh to earn a save.


Chase Carson had three hits and one RBI to lead the Woodland attack. Ray finished with two hits including a double and one RBI. Rowan Billings (RBI), Conner Lujan, and Julian Wright had the other Wildcat hits.


Dalton falls to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in Region 7-5A.


Woodland (8-7, 3-0) has a three-game series next week with Cartersville. The Wildcats will host Monday, visit the Canes on Thursday, and host again on Friday.
