Wildcats win at Calhoun; Eagles fall at Oakwood Christian

Jake Clowers had two hits Monday night in the Wildcats' win at Calhoun.

Cam Williams drove home the Wildcats’ go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning Monday night to help Woodland to a 4-3 Region 7-5A win at Calhoun.


Jake Clowers singled to open the inning and Jonathan Ryan was entered to run for Clowers. Ryan moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Joshua Hicks to set up the deciding run.


The two teams went to extra innings tied at 3-3. Woodland scored two runs in the top of the third before Calhoun cut the Wildcats’ lead in half with a run in the fourth inning.  Woodland moved ahead 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning but the Yellow Jackets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on Isaac Green’s two-run homer.


Austin Daves (2.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 5K) picked up the pitching win in relief of Woodland starter Zach Lambert (6.2 IP, 3ER, 6H, 1BB, 4K).


Ayden Ray had two hits including a double for the Wildcats’ offense. Clowers also had two hits. Mason Williams (two RBIs) and Cam Williams produced a hit. Conner Lujan drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.


Woodland (12-11, 3-4) is scheduled to host Calhoun (6-17, 2-5) on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.



OAKWOOD CHRISTIAN 3, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 0


Excel Christian Academy baseball was shutout Monday evening at Oakwood Academy, 3-0. 


Oakwood scored single runs in the bottom of the first, fifth, and sixth innings for their margin of victory.


Excel managed only three hits in the loss.


Gavin Dyson (5.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 5H, 3BB, 12K) struck out twelve in a pitching start for Excel. Jacob Jinks also pitched and struck out one in the sixth inning.


Cameron Adams, David Jinks, and McKaden Gentry had one hit for Excel.


Oakwood Christian improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in GAPPS Region 1 of Division I-A. 


Excel Christian (3-7, 2-3) is scheduled to host Johnson Ferry Christian Academy on Tuesday.
