Wildcats win on Williams' buzzer-beater in OT; Lady Cats edged at Coosa


Megan Schultz and Brelace Williams were the top scorers for Woodland Thursday night at Coosa.

The Woodland boys outdueled Coosa in overtime Thursday night in Rome to earn the Wildcats’ first win of the season, 52-50.


Brelace Wiliams, who led the Wildcats with 19 points, made a shot at the buzzer in overtime for the winning basket. Isaiah Livsey scored 14 points. Jackson Christiana followed with 12. Zyon Heath and David Byars added four and three points, respectively for Woodland.


The Wildcats led 16-11 after the opening eight minutes and held a 29-27 lead at the intermission. The host Eagles led 41-39 after three quarters and the game went to overtime tied 48-48.


Coosa (0-1) was led by Joseph Richardson’s 16 points. Josh Dixon scored 11 and DJ Hames added 10 for the Eagles.


Woodland (1-1) plays at Christian Heritage in Dalton Monday night at 7:30 p.m.



COOSA 31, WOODLAND GIRLS 29

The Woodland girls took a 21-16 lead into the fourth quarter, but Coosa rallied down the stretch to defeat the Lady Cats 31-29 Thursday night in Rome.


Coosa led 14-13 at halftime, but the Lady Cats grabbed a five-point lead by the end of the third period.


Abby Jacobs led the Lady Eagles (1-0) with 15 points. Riyah Manley followed with seven points and Brooke McClellan finished with five points for Coosa.


Megan Schultz led Woodland with 14 points. Morgan Echols scored six. Reagan Weightman contributed five points. Kasidee Wall finished with three and Bailee Motes added one point.


“We need to learn to do the little things on both ends of the floor to win these close games,” said Lady Cats head coach Kyle Morgan after the game. “The kids played hard, played together, and they will improve as the season goes on. We just need more consistency.”


The Lady Cats (0-2) play at Christian Heritage Monday night at 6 p.m.
