Winters named girls basketball coach at Adairsville

Adairsville High School announced Friday that Melissa Winters has been named the new girls basketball head coach for the Lady Tigers. Winters, who has served the past three seasons as an assistant coach for resigning head coach Michael Roberson, takes the helm of a program that was 14-64 over those years and has endured six consecutive losing seasons. Roberson has accepted a full-time position with the Bartow County Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The last time the Adairsville girls finished over .500 was in 2013-14 when the program was 13-10 under Meredith Barnhill, who now serves as the school’s athletic director. Prior to joining Roberson at Adairsville, Winters spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Cass and has been a teacher at Adairsville Elementary since 2006. She has also been involved with travel ball and recreation basketball over the years. Winters is a graduate of Cartersville High School and played college basketball at Converse College, an NCAA Division II program in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the announcement was made Friday via social media by Barnhill.
