Wolfpack over Wildcats in this year's battle of Woodland teams

Woodland-Stockbridge senior quarterback Brayden Rogers threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more Thursday night to lead the Wolfpack to a 48-13 road win at Woodland-Cartersville.
Rogers connected with Odiljah Charles for a 56-yard catch and run to open the scoring. The Wolfpack added the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 9:27 remaining in the opening period.
Woodland-Cartersville answered on the ensuing kickoff.
Wildcats’ senior Michael Berry returned the kick 95 yards for a touchdown to make the score 7-6 — the Woodland-Cartersville point after failed.
The Wolfpack then reeled off four unanswered touchdowns to close out the first half with a 35-6 advantage.
Rogers scored on a 28-yard run followed by a 15-yard touchdown pass to Coury Bryan to build a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rogers then connected with wide receiver Braylan Seats for a 17-yard touchdown midway through the second period and added an 11-yard scoring run with 1:48 remaining in the opening half.
Woodland-Cartersville’s offense got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter. Sophomore quarterback Sammy Ray hooked up with tight end Korbyn Jarrett for a 32-yard touchdown that narrowed the Wildcats’ deficit to 35-13 following Justin Abarca’s PAT with 7:34 left in the third quarter.
The visiting Wolfpack then sealed their win with back-to-back scoring drives and touchdown passes by Rogers. The first went to Charles from 22 yards out with 5:00 left in the third quarter. The final touchdown pass was a 46-yard connection with Bryan with 1:35 remaining in the period.
Woodland-Stockbridge (1-0) hosts a Region 2-4A game with Jones County next Friday.
Woodland-Cartersville (0-1) travels to Woodstock next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
