Woodland and Cass earn region doubleheader sweeps; Adairsville wins at Murray County
Woodland blanked Cartersville in both games of a doubleheader; Cass swept Hiram in a region twin bill; and Adairsville won at Murray County Tuesday night as all four local teams were in action.
WOODLAND 4, CARTERSVILLE 0
Woodland scored two runs in the third inning and added two more in the fifth frame providing more than enough run support for Lady Cats’ pitcher Lainey Baker in a 4-0 win over Cartersville. Baker scattered four hits and a walk while striking out 10 Lady Canes batters in the Game 1 win of the Region 7-AAAAA doubleheader.
Michiah Hicks had two hits and drove in two runs for Woodland. Hannah Miller finished with a hit and one RBI. Dylynn Motes, Morgan Cooper, and Ansley Evans had the other Lady Cats’ hits in the opener. Cassie Jones contributed a sacrifice hit.
McKinley Chada (6 IP, 4R, 2ER, 6H, 3BB, 1K) went six innings in the circle for Cartersville. She also collected a pair of hits on offense. Ava Perkins and Campbell Rogers had the other Lady Canes’ base hits. Mikey Lewis contributed a sacrifice hit.
WOODLAND 5, CARTERSVILLE 0
In the second game of Tuesday’s region doubleheader, Woodland posted four runs in the first inning and added an insurance tally in the sixth to complete a sweep of Cartersville, 5-0.
Morgan Cooper blasted a two-run home run, Hannah Miller singled home a run, and J Ryan forced home a run with a double as the Lady Cats took a first inning lead.
Kailey Baker drove in the other Woodland run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Cassie Jones (4 IP, 0R, 4H, 1K) started in the circle and earned the pitching win. Lainey Baker (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) closed out the final three innings.
Ansley Evans doubled and tripled. Cooper finished with a pair of hits including her two-run homer. Miller contributed two hits and one RBI. Ryan (RBI), Lainey Baker, Kailey Baker (RBI), and Michiah Hicks (double) added one hit apiece.
Mikey Lewis had two hits for Cartersville. Kiley Arnold (double), Campbell Rogers, and Amelia Elrod had one hit each for the Hurricanes.
Cartersville (3-13, 1-6) travels to Calhoun Thursday. Woodland (10-4, 6-1) plays at Cass Thursday. Both of Thursday’s games are Region 7-AAAAA contests.
Both teams will play in the Bartow County Championship Tournament Saturday at Cartersville.
CASS 9, HIRAM 1
Every batter in the Game 1 lineup for Cass Tuesday night had at least one hit as the Lady Colonels defeated visiting Hiram 9-1.
Cass pounded out 13 hits in just four offensive frames with Alexis Woods leading the way with three hits including a double. Ansley Hight had two hits including a triple and a fourth inning, two-run home run for the Colonels’ final two runs. Kimberly Allen also had two hits for Cass including a double.
Eryn Lee, Rachael Lee (double), and Macenzie Dougharty contributed one hit and two RBIs each. Kendyl Hardin doubled and drove in one run. Haley Smith and Kelly Young added one hit apiece.
Taylor-Anne Riner led the Hiram offense with two hits including a double.
Rachael Lee (5 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 9K) picked up the pitching win in the Region 7-AAAAA doubleheader.
CASS 15, HIRAM 0
In Game Two, the Colonels pounded out 13 more hits and Kylee Hembree tossed a three-inning, no hitter to complete the region doubleheader sweep over the Hornets.
Hembree (3 IP, 2HBP, 2K) needed only 41 pitches to earn the win.
Kendyl Hardin (2 RBI), Tattianna Christian (RBI), and Haley Smith had two hits each for Cass. Ansley Hight (2 RBI), Savannah Tatum (2 RBI), and Alexis Woods all doubled. Eryn Lee (RBI), Chacy Gosselin, and Macenzie Dougharty (RBI) added one hit apiece. Rachael Lee was credited with one RBI.
Hiram slips to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in region play. Cass (9-4, 5-3) entertains Woodland Thursday at 5 p.m. and will play in the Bartow County Championship tournament Saturday at Cartersville.
ADAIRSVILLE 5, MURRAY COUNTY 1
The Tigers picked up a road Region 6-AAA win Tuesday night in Chatsworth defeating Murray County, 5-1.
Megan Gregory had three hits including a double and one RBI to pace the Adairsville offense. Sadye Johnson added a double and two RBIs while McKenzie Pullam and Makayla Wade contributed one hit apiece for the Lady Tigers.
Taylor Rhoades (7 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 11K) tossed a complete-game, three hitter and did not allow an earned run.
The loss drops Murray County to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (7-3, 3-3) hosts Ringgold Thursday in another region tilt.
