Woodland blanks Hiram, 7-0

Scotty Smith

Pitchers Scotty Smith and Julian Wright combined for a one-hit shutout and Jakiyon Porter had four hits as Woodland beat Hiram Tuesday night, 7-0.


Smith started on the mound and allowed only a fourth inning single to earn the win. He struck out eight. Wright allowed only two walks over the final two innings and struck out five.


The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added their other five runs in the fourth inning. Woodland had nine hits in the contest.


Porter singled in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings for his four hit. The Wildcats’ shortstop also stole four bases and drove in two runs.


Chase Carson tripled and drove in one run. Drew Billings had one hit and one RBI. Carter Heath, Smith, and Peyton Posey contributed one hit apiece for Woodland.


The loss drops Hiram to 2-15 for the season and keeps the Hornets winless in Region 7-AAAAA at 0-10.


Woodland (6-14, 2-8) travels to Hiram for a doubleheader Friday scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
