Woodland blasts Wheeler; Sonoraville rallies late to top Tigers

Woodland scored 13 runs over the final three innings Monday night at Wheeler for a blowout win while Sonoraville rallied for six late runs at Adairsville to beat the Tigers.


The Cass/Central-Carroll and Excel Christian/Cornerstone Prep games were postponed due to wet playing field conditions. Cass will play at Central on Tuesday. Excel is scheduled to host Oakwood Christian on Tuesday.



WOODLAND 19, WHEELER 6


Woodland broke open a tight game Monday night in the late innings at Wheeler to win a battle of Wildcats, 19-6.


Woodland led 6-4 through four innings before posting 13 runs over the final three frames to pull away. Woodland also outhit Wheeler 15 to 4 in the contest. Woodland also took advantage of nine walks and six Wheeler errors.


Ayden Ray (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 5K) picked up the pitching win for Woodland in relief of starter Austin Daves (3 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 3BB, 5K). JD Trail (0.1 IP, 2ER, 0H, 2BB, 1K) and Lucas Baker (1.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 2K) closed out the final two innings.


Conner Lujan had three hits including a triple and four RBIs to pace the Woodland offense. Ray (double, three RBIs), Mason Williams (double, RBI), and Logan Bentley (RBI) finished with two hits. Joshua Hicks (two RBIs), Cam Williams (two RBIs), Jake Clowers (RBI), Brett Good, Luke Evans, and Ben Turcotte contributed one hit. Connor Stermer added one RBI.


The loss dropped Wheeler to 4-3 on the season.


Woodland (6-3) hosts Model on Tuesday.



SONORAVILLE 11, ADAIRSVILLE 8


Sonoraville rallied for six runs in the top of the sixth inning on Monday night at Adairsville for a come-from-behind 11-8 win over the Tigers.


Adairsville led 6-3 through two innings and 8-4 through four innings before the rally by the Phoenix.


McCayden Hufstetler (2.2 IP, 6R, 4ER, 7H, 0BB, 4K) was the losing pitcher for Adairsville in middle relief. Ryan Farr (2.2 IP, 4ER, 5H, 4BB, 3K) started on the mound for the Tigers and Kaiden Coker (1.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 0BB, 2K) retired the final five outs for Adairsville.


Peyton Bowen (two RBIs), Jarrett Scott (RBI), and Jack Nelson had two hits for the Tigers. Harrison Cole (RBI), and Coker had one hit. Braxton Ryan and Farr were credited with one RBI.


Adairsville (4-3) plays at Sonoraville (4-3) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
