Woodland, Cartersville, and Cass collect Thursday softball wins

Three of the four local high school softball teams in action on Thursday collected region victories.



WOODLAND 16, DALTON 2


Woodland softball peppered Dalton pitching with 14 hits Thursday en route to a 16-2 win on the Lady Catamounts' home field.


The Lady Cats scored three runs or more in each of their four offensive frames in the road victory.


Evelyne Tucker (2 IP, 1ER, 4H, 0BB, 2K) and Bella Kuykendall (2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 0BB, 1K) shared the pitching duties for Woodland.


Kamryn Smith (triple, double, three RBi), Ashlyn Baines (sac fly, two RBI), Sis Pirkle (two doubles, two RBI), and Bailey Ryan (RBI) led the Lady Cats’ offense with two hits. Kylee Poston (double, three RBI), Bailey Gerstner (sac fly, RBI), Addy Bassett (RBI), Lillian Hollis, Charlotte Peterson, and Sonny Hicks added one hit.


The loss dropped Dalton to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Region 7-4A.


Woodland (2-4, 1-2) hosts Hiram on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.




CARTERSVILLE 8, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 0


Lady Canes’ pitchers Zoie Shiflett and Presley Crabbe combined for a one-hitter in the circle, and Cartersville remained undefeated on the season with an 8-0 win at home over the Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders.


Shiflett allowed one hit and no walks with six strikeouts across the first four innings. Crabbe struck out the side in the fifth inning.


Cartersville scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, scored four in the third, and added three more runs in the fourth inning.


The Lady Canes produced ten hits.


LaKiaya Banks finished with three hits, including one double, one triple, and one RBI. Shiflett produced two hits, including one home run with three RBI. Kinsey Woodard (sac fly, RBI), Miley Jo Williams (double, RBI), Addi Burns, Taryn Bradley, and Sam Porter contributed one hit. Sophia Harper added one RBI.


The loss left Southeast Whitfield with a 1-4 record overall and 0-4 mark in Region 7-4A.


Cartersville (7-0, 3-0) visits Allatoona on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. first pitch.




CASS 10, HIRAM 0


Cass pitchers Kylie Gentry and Lily Powell combined for a six-inning no-hitter Thursday evening as the Lady Colonels won at Hiram, 10-0.


The Lady Colonels posted five runs in the top of the first inning, added single runs in the third and fifth, and finished off their scoring with a three-run sixth.


Gentry picked up the win in the circle, striking out nine in the first five innings. Powell struck out one in a scoreless sixth inning.


Gentry also produced three hits and had three RBI for the Cass offense. Shyia Woods (RBI) and Molli Morrow contributed two hits. Bailey York (three RBI) and Harlee Thomason (RBI) added one hit.


Hiram fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in Region 7-4A with the loss.


Cass (5-3, 3-1) hosts region foe Cedartown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.




CALHOUN 3, ADAIRSVILLE 2 (8 innings)


The Lady Tigers out-hit Calhoun 12 to six Thursday evening, but the host Lady Jackets managed a 3-2 walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth inning.


Calhoun led 2-0 after one inning, but Adairsville knotted the score in the top of the fifth inning. Following two scoreless innings, the game entered an extra frame. Adairsville failed to score in the top of the eighth, and Calhoun put together a pair of hits in the bottom of the inning to walk off with the victory.


Ashlyn Carlton (7.2 IP, 3ER, 6H, 1BB, 9K) suffered the tough pitching loss for the Tigers.


Chloe Hill led the Adairsville offense with three hits and one RBI. Alivia Joslin, Ansley Powell (double), Ashlyn Carlton, and Maddie Baggett added two hits each. Ashlynn Durden (double, RBI) contributed one hit.


Calhoun improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 7-3A.


Adairsville (3-2, 1-1) hosts LaFayette on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
