Woodland, Cartersville collect region softball wins

Woodland and Cartersville picked up key region softball wins Thursday evening while Adairsville dropped a region matchup at home with Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.


Woodland pitchers Haley Collum and Peyton Dorn combined for a one-hit shutout of Hiram while Cartersville pitchers Ava Perkins and Kennedy Stevens tossed a combined two-hitter to beat Dalton.

Woodland pitchers Haley Collum and Peyton Dorn combined for a shutout Thursday night as the Lady Cats blanked visiting Hiram, 10-0.


Collum (4 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 4K) picked up the pitching win. Dorn (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) closed out the one-hitter for the duo.


Woodland scored twice in the first inning, then added six more runs in the second and two in the fourth for the run-rule victory in five innings.


Kamryn Smith led the Wildcats’ offense with three hits including a double and three RBIs. Collum had two hits including a double and three RBIs. Bailey Sakacsi also had two hits. Dorn contributed a triple and two RBIs. Cambrie Carrington (RBI) and Mackenzie Araya added one hit each while Jordan Hammonds and Alana Carnes were credited with one RBI each.


Hiram slipped to 5-7-2 overall and 1-6 with the loss.


Woodland (8-7, 4-3) hosts Cartersville Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.



CARTERSVILLE 2, DALTON 1

Cartersville pitcher Ava Perkins went 5-2/3 innings Thursday night as the Lady Canes edged Dalton, 2-1.

Kiley Arnold hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning Thursday night and pitchers Ava Perkins and Kennedy Stevens combined for a two-hitter as Cartersville edged visiting Dalton, 2-1, in a Region 7-5A matchup.


Perkins (5.2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 7BB, 3K) picked up the pitching victory. Stevens (1.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K) earned a save by retiring the final four outs.


In addition to Arnold’s first inning home run, she also contributed a double. Mikey Lewis had two hits. Elizabeth Nelson, Jordan Bishop, and McKinley Chada added one hit apiece for the Hurricanes.


The loss dropped Dalton to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in region play.


Cartersville (7-5-1, 6-1) hosts Villa Rica Monday at 5 p.m. in a non-region game and returns to region play Tuesday at Woodland at 5:55 p.m.


LAKEVIEW-FORT OGLETHORPE 3, ADAIRSVILLE 0

Both teams were strong in the pitching circle Thursday night but it was the visiting LFO Warriors who managed the game’s only runs as they defeated Adairsville, 3-0.


Adairsville hurler Megan Gregory (2.1 IP, 0H, 2ER, 3BB, 2K) was tagged with the pitching loss in a start. Jordan Clay (4.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 4H, 0BB, 1K) also pitched for the Tigers.


Lakely Parish (7 IP, 0R, 4H, 0BB, 9K) tossed a complete game shutout for the Warriors.


McKenzie Pullum, Jenna Young, Clay, and Alissa Winters had one hit each for Adairsville.


LFO improved to 6-8-1 overall and 3-2 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (6-7-1, 2-4) hosts Gordon Lee Tuesday.
