Woodland, Cass, and Adairsville wrestling teams reach State Duals Final Eight Championships


Isaac Linley was one of sixteen Adairsville wrestlers to go unbeaten Saturday as the Tigers advanced to next week's Class AAA State Duals Championships.

The wrestling teams at Woodland, Cass, and Adairsville won their respective State Duals Preliminaries Saturday to reach the Final Eight State Duals Championships next Saturday.

Woodland defeated Greenbrier as they hosted a Class AAAAA State Prelim. Cass had wins over North Springs and Eastside to win their Prelim and Adairsville had victories over Appling County and host Pike County to qualify for the Class AAA Elite Eight.

Cartersville defeated Villa Rica Saturday, but the Canes were eliminated by Walnut Grove 48-32 in the Prelim finals.

Thirteen Woodland wrestlers won by pin in the Wildcats’ Prelim finals win over Greenbrier, 78-6. The list of winners for Woodland included: Hayden Santora (106), Connor Stermer (113), Carson Bailey (120), Easton Bishop (126), Randy Buchanon (132), Colton Bishop (138), Caden McCrary (145), Brandon Montes (152), Caleb Henson (160), Cole Cochran (170), Jeremiah Rhodes (182), Jaxon Smith (195), and Champ Higdon (220).

At Southwest Dekalb Saturday, Cass routed North Springs 78-6 as the Spartans only had six wrestlers participate. Cass utilized some JV wrestlers as a result. In the Prelim finals against Eastside, the Colonels won 11 of the 13 contested weight classes and racked up a 58-9 win.

Eli Doolittle (132) and Gavin Smith (152) won by decision against Eastside. Noah Hoffmeier (220) won by tech fall. Sebastian Sosa (195), Sean Whatley (285), Montgomery Tompkins (106), Jake Crapps (120), Cole Hunt (126), Tyler McKnight (138), Adan Urizar (145), and Zach McKnight (160) all won by pins for the Colonels.

Competing at a Class AAA State Prelim at Pike County, Adairsville advanced to next week’s state finals with a 77-6 win over Appling County and a 45-25 victory over Pike. Sixteen different wrestlers were unbeaten on the day for Adairsville including: Jaxson Owens, Dyland Smith, Isaac Linley, Jacob Pasley, RJ Bowling, Andrew Johnson, Doss Dudley, Hayden Blalock, Adam Martin, Tristan Cornett, Dalton Cornett, Westin Porter, Seth Sellers, Eddie DiCarlo, Seth Kelley, and Luke Story.

In their Class AAAAA State Prelim at Villa Rica, Cartersville defeated the host Wildcats 66-13 but failed to qualify for the Final Eight with a 48-32 loss to Walnut Grove.

Seven Canes went unbeaten on the day including: Eaiden Neal (106), Jaylon Whatley (113), Giles Turner (126), Rashar Locklear (170), Jairo Martinez (182), Rashun Hurst (195), and Shadre Hurst (285).

Next Saturday, the Class AAAAA State Finals at Locust Grove High School will include defending state champion Woodland, Cass, Woodward Academy, Jackson County, Harris County, Walnut Grove, Ola, and Ware County.

The Class AAA State Finals will take place at Cherokee Bluff High School.

In addition to Adairsville, the tournament will include Greater Atlanta Christian, Gilmer, Hart County, Sonoraville, Rockmart, Morgan County, and North Hall.
