Woodland, Cass soccer teams lose region openers


The Cass girls and boys soccer teams lost their Region 7-AAAAA openers Friday night at Calhoun. The Lady Colonels fell 5-2 and the Cass boys were blanked 2-0.


The Calhoun girls led 3-1 at halftime in the opener. Morgan Tompkins scored the Lady Colonels’ first half goal.


The Lady Jackets added two more goals in the second half while Sheridan Johnson scored the second Lady Colonels’ goal off a penalty kick.


The Calhoun girls improved to 2-4-1.


The Lady Colonels (1-6-1, 0-1) will host Murray County Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in a non-region match and will host region-foe Cartersville next Friday — also a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.



CALHOUN 2, CASS BOYS 0

The Cass boys were shutout at Calhoun Friday night in their region opener, 2-0.


Calhoun improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAA.


Cass (6-4, 0-1) plays at Bremen Monday at 7:30 p.m., hosts Murray County Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., and returns to region action next Friday at home against Cartersville.




BLESSED TRINITY 10, WOODLAND GIRLS 0


The Lady Cats lost their Region 7-AAAAA opener Friday night at Blessed Trinity 10-0.

The hosting Titans improved to 8-1-1 overall and 1-0 in region play.

Woodland (4-2-2, 0-1) hosts Heritage-Catoosa Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in a non-region contest.



BLESSED TRINITY 9, WOODLAND BOYS 0


In the Region 7-AAAAA opener for both clubs, Blessed Trinity blanked visiting Woodland Friday night in Roswell, 9-0.


The Titans improved to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in region play.


Woodland (3-3-3, 0-1) hosts Heritage-Catoosa in non-region action Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
