Woodland defeats Rome with two big offensive frames


With five runs in the fifth inning and six more in the seventh, the Woodland Wildcats utilized two big offensive innings Tuesday night to win at Rome 13-8.

The Wildcats led 2-1 after on inning but the host Wolves scored six runs across the second through fourth innings to take a 7-2 lead. Woodland tied the game in the fifth and after a scoreless sixth frame, the Wildcats outscored Rome 6-1 in the seventh inning for a five-run non-region victory.

Mason Williams had two hits and four RBIs for the Wildcats. Julian Wright followed with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Jakiyon Porter also had a two-hit game with an RBI. Ayden Ray contributed one hit and four RBIs. Chase Carson drove in a run and had one hit while Jackson Rutledge had a double for Woodland.

Conner Stermer (3 IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 1K) picked up the pitching win for the Wildcats by retiring the final nine outs. Nate Rosser (1 IP, 3ER, 0H, 6BB) and Coby Barrett (3 IP, 4R, 2ER, 5H, 0BB, 3K) also took the mound for Woodland.

Rome slips to 3-5 on the season with the loss.

Woodland (4-3) plays at Wheeler Thursday at 5:55 p.m. and at Rockmart Friday in a 5:45 p.m. start.


CENTRAL-CARROLL 12, CASS 2

The Colonels managed only single runs in the third and fourth innings Tuesday night in a 12-2 loss at Central-Carroll.

The host Lions led 7-0 after the first two innings and plated five more runs in the third on their way to a five-inning win.

Aidan Cottingim (1 IP, 7R, 5ER, 3H, 3BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass. Hayden Cole (2.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 7H, 1BB, 2K) and Chris Cabe (0.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K) also pitched for the Colonels.

Aidan Larkin had two hits for Cass including a double. Cole finished with a hit and one RBI. Wesley Collins added a triple and Jesiel Moctezuma contributed one hit.

Central improved to 5-2.

Cass (1-5) gets a rematch with the Lions at home Wednesday at 5:55 p.m.


TRION 3, ADAIRSVILLE 1

A three-run second inning by the visiting Trion Bulldogs Tuesday night produced enough offense for their pitching in a 3-1 win at Adairsville.

Trion pitchers Jase Mason and Brandon Dover combined to limit the Tigers to a single run while scattering five hits and three walks. The Trion pitching duo combined to strike out six.

Jack Nelson (4 IP, 3ER, 3H, 4BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for Adairsville. Peyton Bowen (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 2BB, 3K) pitched in relief for the Tigers.

Chris Roper had a double and one RBI for the Adairsville offense. Braden Powell also doubled. Bowen, Brenden Carroll and Luke Altizer added one hit each.

Trion improved to 3-1 with their win.

Adairsville (2-4) hosts a doubleheader with Temple Saturday at 12 noon.
