Woodland evens season series with Cartersville; Lady Colonels defeat Hiram

Trailing 4-2 heading into the fifth inning Tuesday night, Woodland scored four runs and held on to defeat host and 6th-ranked Cartersville 6-4.
The win by the Lady Cats evened the season series with the Lady Canes at one game apiece. Cartersville won the first meeting on August 22, 6-5.
Cartersville outhit Woodland in Tuesday’s matchup, nine to six.
Pitchers Peyton Dorn (3.2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 5H, 3BB) and Haley Collum (3.1 IP, 0R, 4H, 1BB) shared the circle with Collum picking up the pitching win.
Zoie Shiflett (7 IP, 6R, 2ER, 6H, 4BB, 3K) took the pitching loss for the Hurricanes.
Jordan Hammonds (four RBIs) and Alana Carnes had two hits each for Woodland. Collum and Mackenzie Araya added one hit apiece.
Layne Callan had three hits including a double for Cartersville. Jordan Bishop (triple, two RBIs), Kennedy Crenshaw (RBI), Erin McCrary, Shiflett, LaKiaya Banks, and Allana Williams added one hit each for the Canes.
The two teams will meet for a third regular season game on October 3 at Woodland.
The loss dropped Cartersville to 10-5 overall and 7-1 in Region 7-5A.
9th-ranked Woodland (12-6, 5-3) visits Dalton on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and plays at Chattooga on Saturday at noon.
Cartersville hosts Cass on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
CASS 11, HIRAM 1
The Lady Colonels scored five runs in the first inning and five more in the third Tuesday night on their way to an 11-1 win over visiting Hiram in five innings.
Cass pitcher Emma Gibson (5 IP, 1ER, 3H, 3BB, 3K) earned the pitching win with a complete game.
Cayce Brown led the Colonels’ offense with three hits including a triple, a double, and two RBIs. Autumn Smith (double, two RBIs) and Payton Mize followed with two hits each. Darianna Sosa (RBI), Braelyn Franklin (triple), KK Evans, and Erin Clinard added one hit apiece.
Cass also stole eight bases in the win.
The loss drops Hiram to 5-9 on the season and 1-7 in Region 7-5A.
The Lady Colonels (5-11, 2-6) play at 6th-ranked Cartersville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and at Gilmer on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
GORDON LEE 12, ADAIRSVILLE 0
Gordon Lee scored runs in all four innings Tuesday night and shutout visiting Adairsville, 12-0.
The Trojans also outhit the Lady Tigers, eleven to two.
Brie Patterson and Taylor Evans had one hit each for Adairsville.
Sydney Garrett and Tenslee Wilson combined in the pitching circle for the Gordon Lee shutout. Gracie Helton had two doubles and four RBIs to pace the Trojans’ offense.
No. 1-ranked Gordon Lee improved to 13-1-1 on the season and remained unbeaten at 6-0 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (2-11, 1-6) hosts Coahulla Creek on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
