Woodland girls 4th, boys 7th at Ridge Ferry; Adairsville XC opens season


The Woodland girls were fourth and the Wildcat boys were seventh Saturday at the 30th Ridge Ferry Invitational in Rome.


Tyler Jones ran to a fourth place individual finish in 16:42 to lead the Woodland boys.


Emma Segars placed 13th overall in 21:53 to lead the Lady Cats.


Creekview won the girls team championship followed by Lovett, River Ridge, and the Lady Cats. Armuchee was fifth. North Paulding, North Cobb, Kell, Kennesaw Mountain, and Rome rounded out the top ten girls teams.


The girls race included 15 teams and 108 runners.


The Wildcats were seventh of 17 total teams in a race that included 143 runners. North Paulding won the team race by one point over Rome. Creekview, Armuchee, and Darlington rounded out the top five and Lovett was sixth.


Other top finishes for the Woodland girls:

Miranda Pelow (19th, 22:11), Olivia Berry (27th, 22:36.50), Abby George (28th, 22:36.90), and Danielle Thayer (36th, 23:12).


Shelby Green of Armuchee won the individual girls race in 18:31.


Other top finishes for the Woodland boys:

Drew Thayer (28th, 18:07), Landon McSwain (51st, 18:57), Rowan Lee (58th, 19:16), Andy Forsyth (60th, 19:16.70), and Kameron Chappell (61st, 19:16.80).


Woodland will host their 16th annual Run at the Rock Invitational Saturday on the school’s campus.


Adairsville cross country teams open ’22 season The Adairsville High cross country teams opened the 2022 season Saturday at the Front Runner 5 Star Stride hosted by Heritage High School in Ringgold.


While the Lady Tigers did not field a full team, the Tigers placed tenth of 18 participating teams.


The boys team competition was won by Dalton, followed by Cedartown and Central-Carroll.


Tucker Henderson of LaFayette won the boys race in 16:44.


Adairsville was led by Griffin Bozeman who placed 20th overall in 19:00. He was followed by teammates Eli Pearson (21st, 19:03), Michael Spinks (61st, 20:38), Dutch Hernandez (63rd, 20:41), and Cody Teer (103rd, 22:57)


Callie Viktora (24:42) of the Lady Tigers finished 29th of 111 runners. Caroline O’Kelley was 34th in 25:01.


Next for Adairsville is the Rocky Face Invitational September 8 in Dalton.
