Woodland girls and boys win Region 7-5A XC titles; Adairsville boys runner-up in Region 6-3A


Tyler Jones won the Region 7-5A individual title and led the Wildcats to a team championship.

The Woodland girls' and boys' cross country teams both won Region 7-5A championships Tuesday on their home campus course.


Cartersville’s girls and boys both placed third while the Cass boys were fifth. The Cass girls did not field a full team score.


Danielle Thayer (21:50.46) of Woodland finished runner-up individually just over 18 seconds behind winner Carolynn Dooley of Calhoun. Five other Lady Cats followed Thayer in the top ten. Olivia Berry (23:30.71), Miranda Pelow (23:02.63), Emma Segars (23:14.95), Abby George (23:15.52), and Autumn Lottner (23:17.96) turned in top performances for Woodland.


Anna Grace Boone (23:27.28) finished eleventh and Leyla Booth (23:35.55) was twelfth for the Cartersville girls.


Cass had three girls compete, led by a fourteenth place finish by Scarlett Hale.


The Woodland boys had four runners to finish in the top seven individually including Tyler Jones (16:45.45) who finished first. Drew Thayer (18:03.44) was fifth, Landon McSwain (18:09.39) sixth, and Juan Mendoza (18:12.27) finished seventh.


Cartersville’s Malachi Vosburgh (17:26.95) was runner-up to Jones. He was followed by fellow Canes Hayden Mitchell (18:23.59) and Barrett Stepp (18:33.90) who finished eleventh and twelfth, respectively.


Critton Gearhart (19:05.29) was the top Cass finisher in 16th place.


ADAIRSVILLE BOYS REGION 6-AAA RUNNER-UP

The Adairsville boys team finished second in the Region 6-AAA Championship meet Tuesday at LaFayette. The region title was won by Bremen.


Griffin Bozeman led the Tigers with a sixth place individual finish. Eli Pearson was 13th and Dutch Hernandez was 16th for Adairsville.


The Lady Tigers did not field a full scoring roster, but Callie Viktora placed third individually and Caroline OKelley placed eleventh.
