Woodland halts Colonels; Cartersville falls at Calhoun

Alana Carnes had a triple and two RBIs in the Lady Cats' win Tuesday over Cass.

Woodland scored seven runs in the fourth inning Tuesday night at home and the Lady Cats beat Cass for the second time this season, 10-2.

Woodland rattled off a dozen hits in their five inning win.

Pitcher Haley Collum (5 IP, 2ER, 3H, 1BB, 4K) collected the pitching victory.

Jordan Hammonds had three hits for Woodland. Mackenzie Araya (double, RBI), Ashlynn Baines (RBI), and Peyton Dorn followed with two hits each. Bailey Ryan (two RBIs), Alana Carnes (triple, two RBIs), and Elizabeth Hartsfield (RBI) contributed one hit each. Kamryn Smith added one RBI.

Emma Gibson (4.2 IP, 10R, 9ER, 12H, 2BB, 1K) took the pitching loss for Cass.

Braelyn Franklin, Darianna Sosa, and Reese Howard (RBI) had the three Cass base hits. Cayce Brown drove in one run.

Woodland, ranked ninth in Class 5A, improved to 14-6 on the season and 7-3 in region play. The Wildcats host Hiram Thursday at 5:55 p.m.

Cass (6-13, 2-8) hosts Rome in a non-region game Wednesday at 5 p.m. and returns to Region 7-5A action Thursday at home against 7th-ranked Calhoun.


Calhoun broke open an otherwise tight game Tuesday night by scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull away for an 8-2 win over visiting Cartersville.

Calhoun added two more runs in the sixth inning to build an 8-1 advantage. Cartersville tacked on a single run in the seventh.

Zoie Shiflett (4.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for Cartersville. LaKiaya Banks (1.1 IP, 3R, 1ER, 3H, 2BB) also pitched for the Hurricanes.

Reese Dumas had two hits for Cartersville. Erin McCrary and Jordan Bishop added one hit each for the Canes. Layne Callan drove in one of the runs with a sacrifice fly.

No. 7 Calhoun improved to 12-7-1 overall and 9-1 in Region 7-5A.

Cartersville (12-6, 8-2) was ranked No. 9 this week and will visit North Cobb Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a non-region game.
