Woodland splits non-region games Saturday

Woodland softball split a pair of non-region games Saturday. The Lady Cats beat the Lanier Longhorns 6-4 but lost to the Collins Hill Eagles, 5-2.


In the win over Lanier, Jordan Hammonds had four hits and Mackenzie Araya had three hits with two RBIs to lead the Woodland attack. Peyton Dorn (2 RBIs), Kamryn Smith (RBI), Cambrie Carrington (double, RBI), and Elizabeth Hartsfield (double) each finished with two hits. Alana Carnes added one hit for the Wildcats.


Haley Collum was the winning pitcher for Woodland with a seven inning complete game. The freshman pitcher scattered eight hits and three walks while fanning seven.


The Lady Cats led 2-0 early against Collins Hill, but the Eagles tied the game in the third inning and scored three times in the fifth to post their win.

Peyton Dorn

Ashlyn Dowdy (4.2 IP, 5ER, 9H, 0BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for Woodland. Dorn (2.1 IP, 0R, 3H, 0BB) pitched in relief.


Carrington and Dorn had two hits each for the Lady Cats’ offense. Araya (RBI), Hartsfield (RBI), and Smith added one hit each.


Woodland (12-14, 6-6 Region 7-5A) plays at region-leading Cartersville Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. and travels to Dalton Thursday for another 5:55 p.m. start.
