Woodland splits two games, Cass drops pair at Chattanooga tourney Friday night
Woodland and Cass both participated in tournament games at the Chattanooga Score International Tournament Friday night.
The games were played at Warner Park.
Woodland defeated Ringgold in their opener but the Wildcats were shutout by Gordon Lee in the late game.
Cass was blanked in both of the Lady Colonels' games — falling to Northwest Whitfield and Heritage-Catoosa by identical 8-0 scores.
WOODLAND 4, RINGGOLD 2
The Lady Cats scored two runs in the second inning and two more in the fifth Friday night and it turned out to be enough for pitchers Peyton Dorn and Ashlyn Dowdy to hold off the Ringgold Tigers, 4-2.
The two Ringgold runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning after Woodland had taken a 4-0 lead.
Dorn (4.2 IP, 2ER, 6H, 1BB) picked up the pitching win. Dowdy (1.1 IP, 0R, 1H) earned a save.
Jordan Hammonds had two hits for the Wildcats. Elizabeth Hartsfield contributed a double. Cambrie Carrington finished with one hit and Mackenzie Araya tossed in one hit and one RBI. Bailey Sakacsi and Dorn had the other Woodland RBIs.
GORDON LEE 9, WOODLAND 0
Woodland’s Cambrie Carrington had the only Lady Cats’ hit Friday night in a 9-0 loss to Gordon Lee.
The Trojans had five hits and added four walks to score seven times in the third inning putting the game out of reach for the Wildcats.
Ellie Parker (2 IP, 4ER, 4H, 1BB) suffered the pitching loss. Ashlyn Baines (0.2 IP, 3ER, 2H, 1BB), Bailey Gerstner (0.0 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 2BB), and Kamryn Smith (1.1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1K) all pitched for the Wildcats.
Woodland (10-9, 5-4 Region 7-5A) returns to region action Tuesday at Cass at 5:55 p.m.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 8, CASS 0
A pair of Lady Bruins’ pitchers limited Cass to only four hits Friday night in an 8-0 shutout.
Northwest scored a run in the top of the first, added four in the second, and posted three more runs in the top of the fifth.
Alexis Woods had two hits for Cass. Braelyn Franklin and KK Evans had the other Lady Colonels’ base hits.
Bailey York (5 IP, 8R, 3ER, 9H, 4BB) was tagged with the pitching loss. The Cass defense committed four errors leading to five, unearned runs.
HERITAGE-CATOOSA 8, CASS 0
The Heritage-Catoosa Generals outranked the Colonels Friday night with an 8-0 shutout win.
Heritage broke open a 2-0 game in the fourth inning by scoring four times. The Generals then added two more runs in the fifth to end the game early. Heritage pounded out 13 hits in their win.
Cass managed just two hits — both singles — by Haylee Dishmon and Bailey York.
Emma Gibson (4.1 IP, 8R, 6ER, 13H, 2BB, 1K) was the losing pitcher for the Colonels.
Cass (7-12, 4-4) is scheduled to play St. Pius X (11 a.m.) and Ringgold (1 p.m.) Saturday in Chattanooga before hosting Woodland in region action Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
