Woodland wins in extra innings at Dalton; Ringgold takes battle of Tigers at Adairsville

Woodland and Dalton needed nine innings Thursday night in Whitfield County to decide their Region 7-5A tilt.
The two teams were tied 3-3 through the regulation seven frames before trading two runs each in the eighth inning. Woodland added two more in the top of the ninth and escaped with a one-run win although Dalton got the potential tying run to third base.
Peyton Dorn (2 IP, 3ER, 4H, 1BB) picked up the pitching win for the Lady Cats in relief of starter Haley Collum (6 IP, 3ER, 5H, 1BB, 3K). Ashlyn Baines (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) earned a one-inning save.
Sophomore Jordan Hammonds had four hits to pace the Woodland offense.
Freshman third baseman Kamryn Smith had three hits and three RBIs that included a dramatic two-run home run in the eighth inning. Her single in the top of the ninth drove in the Wildcats’ crucial seventh run.
Dorn (double, RBI), Collum (RBI), and Mackenzie Araya finished with one hit each. Cambrie Carrington added one RBI.
The loss dropped the Catamounts to 1-6 on the season and 0-4 in region play.
Woodland (6-5, 3-1) hosts Cass Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
Ringgold takes battle of Tigers at Adairsville, 6-5
Ringgold scored all six of its runs in the first two innings Thursday then held on to win at Adairsville, 6-5.
Ringgold scored twice in the top of the first inning and added a four-run second inning in the win. Adairsville narrowed the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the second and scored two more times in the fourth inning, but could do no more damage.
Megan Gregory (6.2 IP, 4ER, 7H, 4BB, 8K) was saddled with the pitching loss for Adairsville. Jordan Clay (0.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K) retired the final out in the seventh inning.
Brie Patterson had two hits with two RBIs for the locals. Halle Chason tripled and drove in a pair of runs. Annalee Morris contributed a double. Chelsea Bates and Alissa Winters added one hit apiece for Adairsville.
Ringgold improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (5-5-1, 1-2) entertains Ridgeland in another region game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
