Woodland wins two at Cass; Tigers wreck Ramblers

The Woodland Wildcats swept both games of a doubleheader at Cass on Thursday evening and won the weeklong Region 7-AAAA series two games to one.
Cass won the first game of the series on Tuesday at Woodland, 4-2, but the Wildcats won 14-6 and 6-4 on the Colonels’ diamond on Thursday.
In Thursday’s opener, Woodland scored five runs in the top of the first inning and added seven in the seventh to put the game away. In the second game, the Wildcats grabbed a 3-1 advantage in the third inning and added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to hold on to a two-run victory. Woodland took advantage of eleven walks issued by Cass pitchers.
Clayton Wilkes (3.1 IP, 5ER, 3H, 2BB, 5K) was the winning pitcher for Woodland in Thursday’s opener. Zaylen Cochran (1.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 2K) and Alfredo Romo (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K) pitched in relief for the Wildcats. Blake Forstie (6.2 IP, 4ER, 5H, 6BB, 5K) picked up Woodland’s pitching win in the nightcap. Brylon Reynolds (0.1 IP, 0R, 1H) retired the final out of the seventh inning.
Dustin Wallin (0.2 IP, 5ER, 5H, 2BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass in the first game on Thursday. Easton Lee (5.1 IP, 2R, 0ER, 4H, 1K), Andrew Ray (0.0 IP, 2ER, 1BB), Landon Lamb (0.0 IP, 3ER, 3BB), and Landon Farmer (1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) also pitched for the Colonels. Noah Rogers (4 IP, 3R, 1ER, 1H, 6BB) made the start for Cass in the second game and was charged with the loss. Wallin (3 IP, 3R, 2ER, 0H, 5BB, 6K) pitched the final three frames.
Tommy Risner had three hits and three RBI to lead Woodland in the doubleheader. Jacob Tatum (double, two RBI), Logan Smith, and Sammy Ray (double, two RBI) followed with two hits each. Preston Sorrells, Grant Tidwell, Jonathy Ryan (RBI), and Steven Tumlin (double, two RBI) added one hit each for the Wildcats. Romo added one RBI.
Zach Stiles led the Cass offense with three doubles in the two games. Maddox Koontz (double, two RBI) and Rogers (three RBI) contributed two hits. Aidan Castenada (RBI), Dawson Warner, Kasey Jacobs (two RBI), Lamb (RBI), and Wallin each added one hit.
Woodland (13-13, 8-10) plays at Allatoona on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. Cass (8-19, 5-13) welcomes Hiram on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
TIGERS EVEN SERIES WITH LAFAYETTE

The Adairsville Tigers bounced back on Thursday at home to even their three-game Region 7-AAA series with the LaFayette Ramblers. The Tigers, who fell 4-1 on Tuesday, won 3-1 on Thursday.
Hudson Parr was outstanding on the mound and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give Adairsville an important insurance run. The Tigers’ hurler allowed only one, unearned run on three hits and two walks. He fanned thirteen in a seven-inning performance.
Harrison Cole had two hits for Adairsville, and Westin Barfield drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Adairsville (17-8, 9-5) travels to LaFayette (12-15, 3-14) for the final game of the series on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
