Wrestling Tigers advance twelve to State Sectionals

The Adairsville Tigers’ wrestling team had a dozen competitors to advance to the GHSA State Sectionals Saturday at Upson Lee High School.

The Area 5-AAA Traditional tournament was hosted Saturday by Bremen High School. Only five teams sent competitors to the Area Tournament. Bremen won the Area team title with 204 points. Adairsville was second at 142. Sandy Creek placed third with 60 points and Douglass-Atlanta was fourth with 55.

The Tigers were led by three wrestlers that won their respective weight division brackets.

Jacob Pasley (144-pounds), Jaimon Long (190), and Seth Sellers (215) each won their weight class. Pasley, who received a bye to his weight division’s finals, defeated Bremen’s Logan Johnson 16-4 to win his bracket. Sellers also had a bye to his division’s championship bout where he won by pin in the second period. Long had a pair of pins — defeating opponents from Douglass and Bremen — to claim his division’s title.

Sam Bailey (106), Madden Boyce (113), Ethan Bruce (126), Victor Singer (132), Jamori Speights (138), Kolt McCord (175), and Jett Johnson (285) each finished second in their divisions.

Also advancing for Adairsville were Brett Lance (150) and Tommy Faulk (165) who placed third and fourth, respectively.

The qualifying Adairsville wrestlers advance to the Class 3A A Sectional tournament Saturday at Upson Lee High School. The top six placers at the Sectional will advance to the GHSA State Finals February 16-18 at the Macon Centreplex.
