- Three Canes set new school records at Purple Hurricane Track & Field Invitational
March 3, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cartersville High School track and field teams hosted the Purple Hurricane Invitational this past Saturday, with 14 boys teams and 13 girls teams participating. The Cartersville boys scored 98 points and finished runner-up to Alexander (150.5). Cherokee (63.5), Darlington (62.5), and Woodstock (55) rounded out the top five. The Woodland boys finished eleventh with 17.5 points. Woodstock (121) won the girls' title, followed by Cherokee (76), Alexander (75), Cartersville (61), and North Cobb (59) in the top five. The Woodland girls placed 12th with 23 points. Carder Brock, Madoxx Davis, and Thoreau Lipscomb established new school records for Cartersville. Brock won the girls' discus throw with a throw of 125 feet, setting a new program mark. Davis won the boys' 100-meter dash with a school record time of 10.65, and Lipscomb won the boys' shot put with a new school-best mark of 57 feet, 11 inches. - Cartersville gymnasts third at recent home meet
March 2, 2026 The Cartersville High School varsity gymnastics team hosted its second meet on Saturday, February 28, at Cartersville Twisters Gym, competing against strong 5A and 6A programs from Cherokee, Etowah, and Lassiter. Cartersville earned an impressive third-place overall finish with a team score of 101.750. Senior Emerie Elrod led the way, placing first on vault with a state preliminary qualifying score of 9.4. She also earned a state preliminary qualifying score of 8.5 on beam. Freshman Ellie Kate Jones had an outstanding performance, placing third on vault with a state preliminary qualifying score of 9.1. Jones also earned an All-Around preliminary state qualifying score of 34.0, marking an impressive milestone early in her high school career. Sophomores Sydney Jackson and Adalynn Weir each earned their first preliminary qualifying scores on beam, with strong routines, scoring 8.80 and 8.90, respectively. "I'm excited about the team's early success. I look forward to what the season holds for this talented and hardworking group of gymnasts," said Cartersville coach Kimberly Mosteller. The Lady Canes will host their next meet at the Cartersville Twisters Gym on Saturday, March 14.

BASKETBALL SE’NAI CAMPER — Montreat College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … in a conference tournament game win over Columbia College and a tourney loss to Milligan University, Camper totaled nine points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. She averaged 4.5 points and 2.9 rebounds this season, appearing in 26 games. The Cavaliers finished with an 11-17 record. JA’KA’YAH DRAUGHN — Brewton Parker Christian University (So., Cartersville HS) … scored five points, with four rebounds, one steal, and one assist in a 90-71 first-round Southern States Athletic Conference tournament loss to the University of Mobile in Montgomery, Alabama. Draughn averaged 9.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 27 games this season as the Barons finished with a 7-21 record. ANSLEY GRIFFIN — North Carolina Wesleyan University (So., Cartersville HS) … scored 17 points with one rebound, one assist, and one steal February 24 in a 91-69 USA South Athletic Conference first-round tournament win over Greensboro College (NC) in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She also had three steals and two rebounds without scoring in a 74-71 tournament loss last Thursday to Southern Virginia University. Griffin averaged 2.5 points and one rebound per game in 26 appearances this season. The Battlin’ Bishops completed the season with a 15-11 record. ZION HAYES — Vincennes University (So., Cass HS) … totaled 19 points in a home win on February 25 over Olney Central College (IL) and a loss last Saturday at Wabash Valley College (IL). Hayes also had eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in those two games. The Trailblazers (19-8) host Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday. ZYON HEATH — LaGrange College (So., Woodland HS) … made brief Collegiate Conference of the South tournament appearances last Friday and Saturday at Maryville College (TN) and on Saturday against Belhaven University (MS) in Maryville, scoring one point with two rebounds. The Panthers defeated Asbury University (KY) and Maryville College in the semifinals, but lost to Belhaven University in the championship game, 92-73. LaGrange finished the season with a 16-12 record. HALEY JOHNSON — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … appeared in two Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament games last week — wins over Johnson Universitiy (TN) and Spartanburg Methodist. She had three rebounds and one steal in the two games. Reinhardt reached the tournament finals, but lost to Milligan University 64-62. The Eagles (23-7) have earned a bid into the 2025-26 NAIA National Tournament and await their site assignment. KEARA McDANIEL — Toccoa Falls College (Sr., Cass HS) … totaled 19 points with 11 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals as the Screaming Eagles beat Southeastern Baptist, but lost to Pensacola Christian at the National Christian College Division II South Region Tournament. McDaniel averaged eight points and four rebounds this season. Toccoa Falls finished the season with a 10-20 record. T.J. PRINTUP — Tusculum University (R-Jr., Adairsville HS) … totaled 33 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and two assists last week in losses at Emory & Henry and at home against 8th-ranked Anderson University. The Pioneers (10-18, 6-16 South Atlantic Conference) did not qualify for the conference tournament. LONDAISHA SMITH — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … in three Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament games last week in Kingsport, Tennessee, Smith totaled 45 points, 19 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. The Eagles beat Johnson University (TN) and Spartanburg Methodist, but lost in the finals to Milligan University 64-62. Reinhardt (23-7) awaits its assignment in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. BEACH VOLLEYBALL AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) … partnered with teammate Kaylee Howell as the Vikings went 3-1 last Friday and Saturday at the Badger Beach Bash in Mobile, Alabama. The duo had a 21-13, 21-12 win against their opponents from Huntingdon College (AL), but lost in three sets, 20-22, 23-21, 15-11, to their Spring Hill College (AL) opponents in a 3-2 team loss. In a 4-1 team win over Erskine College, the duo won a Line 3 match 21-16, 21-19, and they won 21-8, 21-12 in a 5-0 team victory over LaGrange College. Berry (6-3) hosts the Berry Kick-Off with Tennessee Tech and LaGrange College on Friday and Saturday. LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (So., Cartersville HS) … played in an extra match and had split the first two sets with partner Sadie Nelson in the Gamecocks’ 4-1 win last Friday over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Their match was halted. The duo also lost an extra match to Coastal Carolina last Saturday, as USC won 4-1 over the Chanticleers. South Carolina (6-2) went 4-0 at the Wheeler Beach Bash, with additional team wins over Austin Peay and Chattanooga. They host the Carolina Challenge on Friday and Saturday with the College of Charleston, Boise State, Jacksonville University, and North Carolina-Wilmington. TENNIS EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won her Line 6 singles match 7-6, 6-0, and paired with Linn Goerdes at Line 2 doubles to win 6-4 as the Nighthawks blanked Lincoln Memorial University 7-0 on Sunday in Dahlonega. GYMNASTICS ABIGAIL BUNCH — Rhode Island College (Sr., Cass HS) … scored a 9.400 on the unbalanced bars and a 9.300 on balance beam this past Sunday as the Anchorwomen won a four-team meet at Utica University (NY), defeating the hosts, Ithaca College (NY), and Springfield College (RI). RIC will host the NCGA East Championship in Providence on Saturday. INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ANDY FORSYTH — Berry College (So., Woodland HS) … finished second (1:57.49) in the 800 meters at the Southern Athletic Association Track & Field Championships last weekend in Danville, Kentucky. The Vikings finished third in the nine-team conference championship meet behind Centre College (KY) and Trinity University (TX). Next for Berry, they will host the Victor Icebreaker Duals on Saturday, with the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham on March 13-14. DANIELLE THAYER — Augusta University (So., Woodland HS) … finished 12th (18:48.61) in the 5000-meter run at the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Florida. Augusta moves to an outdoor schedule on March 20-21 at Emory University's Invitational. GOLF ANDREW LUTJENS — Georgia College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … carded rounds of 78-78-72 and tied for 35th as the Bobcats finished 13th of 16 teams at the Oldfield Classic on February 22-23 in Okatie, South Carolina. Georgia Southwestern won the tournament. The next tournament for Georgia College is the Lander University Greenwood Invitational. BRODY TIDWELL — Georgia State University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … fired rounds of 71-76-72 and tied for 26th place as the Panthers finished 11th of 15 teams at the Dorado Beach Collegiate on February 21-22 in Puerto Rico. Georgia State plays in the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday (March 2-3) hosted by Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. SOFTBALL KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … started three of four games last week for the Hawks as they beat Clark Atlanta twice last Thursday, but lost twice to Emmanuel University (GA) on Saturday. Arnold was 2-for-6 at the plate with one RBI and scored one run. The Hawks (6-15, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) host conference doubleheaders with Erskine College (SC) on Tuesday and Belmont Abbey College (NC) on Saturday. ADAIRSVILLE 6, MURRAY COUNTY 0 The Tigers broke a scoreless tie with a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth, then put the game away with five runs in the sixth inning in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader in Chatsworth. Adairsville starting pitcher Hudson Parr tossed six shutout innings and struck out 14 to earn the mound victory. He yielded just two hits and issued no walks. McCayden Hufstetler struck out two to close out the shutout in the seventh. Harrison Cole and Westin Barfield (double) each had two hits. Brody Varner (two RBI), Parr (two RBI), Bryson Weaver (triple), Matthew Cook, Evan Hardin, and Braden Slocumb (RBI) added one hit each. ADAIRSVILLE 10, MURRAY COUNTY 8 The Tigers scored five runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth on Saturday, then held on to win the second game of a doubleheader at Murray County, 10-8. Harrison Cole led the Adairsville offense with three hits, including a grand slam home run and five RBI. Evan Hardin and McCayden Hufstetler each contributed two hits. Westin Barfield (two RBI), Braden Slocumb (RBI), and Kaden Coker produced one hit. Matthew Cook and Tyler Parker each added one RBI. Hardin (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) collected the Tigers’ pitching win in relief of starter Tyler Parker (2.1 IP, 4ER, 4H, 1BB, 2K). Cole (0.2 IP, 4ER, 2H, 3BB) and Coker (2.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) also pitched in relief. The two losses on Saturday left Murray County at 7-3. Adairsville (8-2) begins Region 7-AAA play on Tuesday at Calhoun. The Tigers will host the Yellow Jackets on Thursday and play the third game of the region series at Cahoun on Friday. All three games are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. HILLGROVE 9, CARTERSVILLE 4 Hillgrove took advantage of four hit batters and two walks in the top of the sixth inning on Saturday afternoon to score six runs and come-from-behind to defeat Cartersville 9-4 in a game played at Carrollton High School. The Canes led 4-3 through five innings, and the two teams both finished with seven hits. Wyatt Earwood (1.2 IP, 5ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for the Hurricanes in relief of starter Nolan Elrod (4 IP, 3R, 1ER, 4H, 3BB, 8K). Logan Buchanan (0.0 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB) and J.B. Nichols (1.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 2K) also pitched in relief for Cartersville. David Vargas led the Canes’ bats with two hits and one RBI. Tyler Hickman (double, two RBI), Cole Crawford (double, RBI), Clint Hosea, James Manring, and Elrod each added one hit. CARROLLTON 10, CARTERSVILLE 4 The host Trojans built a 6-1 lead through four innings and finished off a 10-4 win Saturday over Cartersville. Carrollton pitchers Carson Heath, Caden Opperman, and Kolton Messer limited the Canes to six hits and combined for 10 strikeouts. Cartersville utilized six pitchers with starter Brayden Logan (2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K) tagged with the loss. Coleman Stubblefield (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 1K), Cole Crawford (1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K), Tyler Hickman (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K), Gianni Gandy (0.1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 2H, 1BB), and Wyatt Earwood (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) all worked short stints on the mound. Nolan Elrod and Brayden Logan had two hits for the Canes. Brant Rutledge (two RBI) and David Vargas contributed one hit for Cartersville. Carrollton improved to 5-5. Cartersville (2-7) will look to snap a seven-game skid when the Canes open play in Region 7-AAAA on Tuesday at home against Allatoona. The visiting Pirates won the series opener on Friday, 11-5, but the Chargers swept the two games on Saturday, 18-0 and 11-1. Kaiden Krak was the Chargers’ winning pitcher in the first game on Saturday. He tossed a five-inning shutout, scattering six hits and two walks. Matthew Perkins (4.1 IP, 1ER, 6H, 0BB, 6K) collected the second pitching win on Saturday by working into the fifth inning. Wyatt Gatlin struck out one and closed out the final game in the series. In Friday’s GHC loss, starter Noah McMahon (4 IP, 6ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) took the pitching loss. Heath Whitlock and Marshall Flowers combined to strike out three in the final 3-⅓ shutout innings. Hayden Miller (two home runs, six RBI), Carson Page (double, two RBI), Caden Marcos (two doubles, three RBI), and Harper Davenport (sac fly, three RBI) each produced four hits in the three-game series. Aidan Larkin (RBI) and Andrew Bishop (home run, double, four RBI) had three hits. Gatlin (home run, four RBI) added two hits in the series. Chatthoochee Valley slipped to 8-8 on the season. The Chargers (20-7) begin conference play in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday at home against South Georgia State. GHC hosts Andrew College for a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Chargers dropped the opening game 11-8, but won the second game 12-4 in five innings. Georgia Military led 6-2 in the middle of the fourth inning of the first game, but GHC scored twice in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth inning to knot the score at 6-all. From there, the Bulldogs outscored the Chargers 5-2 over the final two frames. In Game 2, Georgia Highlands raced to an 11-0 lead, pounded out 14 hits, and closed out a victory in five innings. Cece Williams earned the pitching victory in the second game by working all five innings in the circle. She allowed four earned runs on three hits and four walks. Williams recorded two strikeouts. Haley Curtis (6 IP, 8R, 5ER, 12H, 2BB, 4K) was the Chargers’ losing pitching in the opening game in relief of starter Emily Ferro (1 IP, 3ER, 1H, 2BB, 1K). Ahmani Green finished the doubleheader with six hits, including one triple, one double, and six RBI to lead all Georgia Highlands hitters. Alivia Fannin (triple, two doubles, five RBI) and Athens Hudson (three doubles, three RBI) had four hits. Gracie Azpeitia (double, sac fly, two RBI) and Emma Darrow (triple) contributed three hits. The doubleheader split left Georgia Military with a 12-12 record overall and 1-1 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Georgia Highlands (8-8, 1-1) has a home doubleheader with Northeast Alabama CC on Wednesday and will welcome Gordon State College for a conference doubleheader on Sunday.
- Adairsville soccer teams fall to Model
February 28, 2026 The Adairsville Lady Tigers soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to visiting Model on Friday in a non-region game. The Blue Devils won a tight scramble in the box and converted for a goal in the 30th minute to lead 1-0 at the intermission. Model went up 2-0 in the 43rd minute and added another score five minutes later from a penalty kick. Model, the defending Class A-Division I state champs, improved to 5-2. Adairsville (4-1) will look to bounce back on Tuesday at Pickens in a 6 p.m. kickoff, and will visit Northwest Whitfield on Thursday in a Region 7-AAA match at 5:30 p.m. MODEL 7, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 0 The Adairsville boys trailed 2-0 at halftime and lost 7-0 on Friday night at home in a non-region match with the Model Blue Devils. Model improved to 6-1. Adairsville (0-4) visits North Paulding on Tuesday at 8 p.m. and will begin play in Region 7-AAA on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

CASS 8, SONORAVILLE 7 The Colonels led 6-0 with a six-run third inning, but had to hold on down the stretch to win at Sonoraville on Friday night, 8-7. The host Phoenix narrowed the deficit to 6-3 in the fourth inning and 7-6 in the fifth. Cass added a run in the sixth inning to lead 8-6, then halted a Sonoraville comeback in the final frame. Dustin Wallin (2.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 5K) collected the Colonels’ pitching win by retiring the final eight outs on the mound. Noah Rogers (2.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 4BB, 4K) made the pitching start for Cass, and Easton Lee (2 IP, 6R, 3ER, 6H, 2BB, 2K) pitched in the middle innings. Rogers went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Maddox Koontz produced two hits with one RBI. Dawson Warner (two RBi) and Cooper Rampley each added one hit. Kasey Jacobs drove in a Colonels’ run with a sacrifice fly. The Wolfpack used four pitchers in their victory and limited Woodland to only two hits while striking out a dozen. Clayton Wilkes (1.2 IP, 5R, 4ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Woodland and was tabbed with the loss. Zaylen Cochran (1.2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K), Logan Smith (1.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K), and Brylon Reynolds (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K) pitched in relief for the Wildcats. The Lady Colonels defeated the Lady Indians 3-0, while the Colonels claimed a 2-0 victory. CASS GIRLS 3, McEACHERN 0 Zoe Bailey scored two goals and assisted on Chloe Hunt’s opening goal in the 15th minute as the Lady Colonels earned their first win of the season at McEachern on Friday night. Bailey scored goals in the 40th and 55th minutes, with assists from Bailey White and a corner by Ryland Piatt. Cass coach Kyle Calandra credited a strong defensive performance from Shania Hernandez, Willow White, Hayleigh McGeehan, and Fatima Lopez in the victory. He also noted that Gracey Nash, Amy Villanueva, Baiey White, Gisselle Sanabria, and Jillian Silva controlled the midfield. Lady Colonels’ goalkeepers Layla Allgood and Jordan Thigpin combined for a clean sheet as Cass improved to 1-3. The loss dropped McEachern to 2-3. Cass begins play in Region 7-AAAA on Tuesday at Southeast Whitfield in a 5:30 p.m. kickoff. CASS BOYS 2, McEACHERN 0 Anthony Diaz scored Cass goals in the 24th and 73rd minutes to lift the Colonels to a 2-0 win at McEachern on Friday night. Francisco Castaneda assisted on the first-half goal, and Tabo Mwandu made an assist on the second-half insurance goal. The loss dropped the host Indians to 1-3 on the young season. Cass (3-1) opens Region 7-AAAA action on Tuesday night at Southeast Whitfield.
- Lady Canes advance to host in the Elite Eight with a victory at Warner Robins
February 27, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Kaytlin Arnold paced Cartersville with 22 points Friday night at Warner Robins. The Cartersville Lady Canes dominated the two middle quarters Friday night and held on to defeat the Warner Robins Lady Demons 48-40 on their home floor in the Sweet Sixteen round of the GHSA Class 4A state tournament. Cartersville trailed 15-10 at the end of the opening period, but outscored Warner Robins 13-6 in the second quarter and 17-5 in the third quarter to build a 14-point lead. The Lady Canes then made 12 of 15 free throws in the second half, including 4 of 6 in the fourth quarter, to hold off a late charge by the Demons. The Cartersville victory snapped a 12-game winning streak by Warner Robins heading into the second-round game. "That was a tough environment to play in," said Lady Canes' coach Alvah Beasley following the victory. "The girls played hard and did a great job of executing our game plan." Kaytlin Arnold scored a game-high 22 points to pace the Lady Canes in the scoring column. Arnold added five rebounds and four assists. Trinity Montgomery finished with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists. Zoe McCurry posted seven points, seven boards, and four assists. Blakely Morris chipped in with five points. Kaelyn Agee and Reese Gibson added three and two points, respectively. Laila Howard-Haney led Warner Robins with 16 points. Janelle Turner added 12 for the Demons, who had their season end with a 23-4 record. Cartersville (23-5) earns a home game in the state quarterfinals. The Lady Canes will host Northview on Tuesday night. The Lady Titans (18-12), a No. 4 seed from Region 5-AAAA, have knocked off higher seeds Harris County (55-45) and Blessed Trinity (42-29) in the first two rounds.

Each month, local high schools select an Elite Athlete of the Month from their varsity programs and share the information about their honoree through Bartow Sports Zone and on 100.3 FM and AM 1450, WBHF in Cartersville. Harrison Cole is the February 2026 Elite Athlete of the Month representing Adairsville High School. Cole is a senior center fielder, shortstop, and right-hand pitcher for the Tigers. “Harrison is the heartbeat of our team,” said Tigers’ baseball coach Billy Roper. His passion and love for the game are second to none. He has worked extremely hard, and that work is paying off.” He is the son of Nick and Jessica Cole. Nakayla Evans is the February 2026 Elite Athlete of the Month for Cass High School. A senior and a multi-sport student athlete, Evans has lettered for the Lady Colonels’ basketball team all four years. Evans was the basketball team’s leading scorer at more than 11 points per game and played in all 27 games, leading Cass to the GHSA Class AAAA state tournament. She scored a season-high 25 points on December 18 in a game against Sonoraville. Jair Flores is the February 2026 Elite Athlete of the Month representing Cartersville High School. Flores is a junior wrestler and a member of the Cartersville High JROTC Raiders. He placed fourth in the GHSA Traditional State Championships in the 113-pound weight class. “Jair is a third-year wrestler who soaks up instruction like a sponge and absorbs it fast,” said Canes’ wrestling coach Sammy Rosario. He gives a 100% effort every single day and does all the extra work needed to be successful. He has grit, fight, determination, and buys into the process of our program. I am excited to see him continue to jump levels in wrestling and find his way to the top of the podium in 2027.” Flores plans to continue his education and wrestle in college. The Woodland High School Elite Athlete of the Month for February 2026 is Grant Tidwell. A junior pitcher and catcher on the Wildcats’ baseball team, Tidwell has started the season with a .478 batting average through the first seven games. He has one win and one save on the mound. “Grant has done a great job on the field and has exhibited leadership. He is also an excellent student,” said Woodland baseball coach Mark Collins.
