March 14, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cass girls placed fifth, and the Cass boys were eighth on Saturday at the nine-team Gordon Central Invitational in Calhoun. Riverdale High School won the girls’ and boys’ team titles. Model and Sonoraville were second and third in the girls’ division. Calhoun and Franklin County were second and third in the boys’ division. The Cass girls won the 4x100-meter relay in 52.31. The relay team included Rilyn Caspari, Chloe Dye, Javia Woodard, and Nevaeh Printup. The next competition for the Colonels will be the Dalton High School Rotary Invitational on Saturday, March 21.

The Wildcats (126.50 points) finished behind New Manchester (148) and host Rockmart (140). Douglas County (126.50), Bremen (114), and Haralson County (25) rounded out the boys’ teams. Douglas County (172) won the girls’ meet, followed by Bremen (152), Rockmart (141.50), Woodland (132.50), and Haralson County (52). The Cartersville girls finished with 186.75 points, with Heritage-Catoosa (154.50) and Dalton (122.50) claiming second and third, respectively. The Cartersville boys powered their way to 288 points, followed by Heritage-Catoosa (145.50) and Dalton (109.50). Northwest Whitfield, Ridgeland, and Coahulla Creek were the other competing schools. March 14, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com CANES COMPLETE SWEEP OF CASS The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes completed a three-game region series sweep of the Cass Colonels on Friday night by winning both games of a doubleheader 6-4 and 14-0. The Canes won the first game, earlier in the week at Cass, 11-0. The Colonels stayed close in the first game on Friday night, tying the score at 4-4 after falling behind 4-0 in the third inning. Cass scored two runs in the fourth and the fifth to knot the score, but the Hurricanes answered with two in the bottom of the fifth for an eventual 6-4 win. The second game on Friday was all Canes and ended with the five-inning mercy rule. Cartersville scored three runs in the first and second innings, before finishing off the Colonels with two in the third and six in the fourth. Cass managed only one hit in the second game and committed five defensive errors. Wyatt Earwood earned Cartersville’s pitching victory in the opener on Friday. He worked two scoreless innings of relief with no hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Nolan Elrod made the start for Cartersville and gave up four runs (only two earned) on seven hits and two walks. Elrod fanned eight. Logan Buchanan tossed a five-inning, one-hitter and shutout for Cartersville in the nightcap. He walked one and struck out three. Cole Crawford (five RBI) and Brayden Logan (double, three RBI) led Cartersville hitters with four hits on the night. James Manring followed with three hits, including one double and one RBI. Cooper Reynolds (three RBI) and Clint Hosea each produced two hits for the Canes. Parker Lively (RBI), Tyler Hickman, and Elrod contributed one hit. David Vargas added one RBI. Gilmer outhit the Tigers eleven to three, but Adairsville made the best of their scoring opportunities. The Bobcats led 3-1 through 4-½ innings before Adairsville grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth on just two hits. Brody Varner had a two-run double in the fifth, and a two-run error by the Bobcats cost Gilmer the lead. Tyler Parker (2.2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 3K) collected Adairsville’s pitching victory in relief of starter Kaden Coker (3.2 IP, 3ER, 7H, 3K). Westin Barfield (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) faced three batters and closed out the final two outs for the Tigers on the mound. Harrison Cole and Hayden Miller each contributed one hit in the Tigers’ win. Gilmer dropped to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in Region 7-AAA. Adairsville (12-4, 4-2) hosts Ridgeland on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. WOODLAND 19, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 1 WOODLAND 14, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 1 The Woodland Wildcats won both games of a doubleheader at Southeast Whitfield on Friday night and completed a three-game series sweep over the Raiders. Woodland won 19-1 and 14-1 on Friday after taking a 14-0 decision on Wednesday. Logan Smith (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 2K) made the pitching start and earned a win in the opening game. Cameron O’Shields (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB, 2K) also pitched for the Wildcats. Grant Tidwell (5 IP, 1ER, 0H, 2BB, 9K struck out nine and did not allow a hit in Woodland’s second win on Friday. Tidwell (triple, double, three RBI) and Alfredo Romo (five RBI) each had four hits in the doubleheader for the Wildcats. Cartersville struck quickly as sophomore Scout Hullander put the Canes on the board just two minutes into the first half. The momentum continued when Mary Beth Hackney assisted senior Lundyn Eubanks for the second goal. Sophomore Lexi Fennelly added the third, followed by another strike from sophomore Ali Evans. Senior Mallory Nicklas closed out the first‑half scoring, sending the Lady Canes into the break with a commanding 5–0 lead. Cartersville’s strong passing game and relentless pressure kept Cedartown on its heels throughout the match. Freshman goalkeeper Madelyn Cooper came up with several key saves to help preserve the clean sheet. The Lady Canes continued their attack in the second half. Nicklas secured her second goal of the night with a well‑placed header to the right side of the net. The final goal came from freshman center defender Sofia Mayorga, who celebrated her first high school career goal, sealing the 7–0 victory and improving Cartersville’s region record to 3–1 and 5-4 overall. The Lady Canes return to action on Tuesday, when they host Wheeler High School at 5:30 PM. Lady Cats take control in the second half to defeat Cass The Woodland Lady Cats roared back in the second half to overpower the visiting Cass Lady Colonels, claiming a decisive 5-1 Region 7-AAAA victory Friday night at Wildcats Stadium. Cass tied the game at 1-1 in the 25th minute. Amy Villanueva delivered a precise assist to Zoe Bailey, who finished off the goal to level the score for the Lady Colonels. However, the Lady Cats took complete control after the break, unleashing four unanswered goals to pull away and secure the win. Woodland improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in region play with the strong home performance. Cass fell to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in Region 7-AAAA. The Lady Colonels will look to bounce back quickly in an important region matchup, traveling to face Cedartown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Woodland turns its attention to a non-region contest, hosting North Paulding on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Wildcats blank Colonels in a region showdown The Woodland Wildcats struck early and held firm the rest of the way, shutting out the visiting Cass Colonels 2-0 in a Region 7-AAAA boys soccer match Friday night. Woodland needed less than 20 minutes to take command in the game. Luis Sanchez opened the scoring in the 13th minute, firing a shot past the Cass goalkeeper to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Aiden Carrillo doubled the advantage, finishing a quick sequence to make it 2-0. That would prove to be all the offense Woodland would need. The Wildcats' back line and goalkeepers Pedro Mendez and Ayden Ortega locked things down after the break. Mendez turned away all three shots he faced and Ortega added one save. No further scoring occurred, and the contest ended in a defensive stalemate after halftime. The victory improves Woodland to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in Region 7-AAAA play. Cass falls to 4-4 on the season and 1-3 in the region. The Wildcats hit the road next for a non-region contest, traveling to face North Paulding on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Cass returns to region action the same evening, taking on Cedartown in a 7-AAAA matchup scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CARTERVILLE BOYS 4, CEDARTOWN 0 The Hurricanes defeated visiting Cedartown on Friday in a Region 7-AAAA match, 4-0, at Weinman Stadium. Filiberto Duarte had two goals and two assists in a big second half for the Canes. Rhett Jacobs also had a goal and an assist. Joy Toure rounded out the scoring for Cartersville’s first region win. Cartersville improved to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in region play. The loss dropped Cedartown to 1-7 with a 0-4 region mark. March 12, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Adairsville Lady Tigers put on a commanding offensive display Thursday night at home, overwhelming the LaFayette Lady Ramblers with a convincing 7-1 victory in Region 7-AAA action. Leading the charge was senior forward Alexa Damer, who delivered an electrifying performance with five goals to lead the Tigers' attack. The scoring started early as Damer struck in the 3rd minute, finishing off an assist from Braylynn Martin to give Adairsville a quick 1-0 lead. Damer added her second in the 16th minute on a well-placed direct kick. Addi Jerauld joined the party in the 31st minute with her own direct-kick goal, and Damer completed her first-half hat trick in the 40th minute off an assist from Ella Edwards. The Lady Tigers carried a 4-0 advantage into halftime. LaFayette managed to break through in the 54th minute, scoring to make it 4-1. The goal marked the first time this season that a region opponent has found the back of the net against Adairsville's defense. The Tigers responded with authority in the second half. Damer notched her fourth goal in the 64th minute on an assist from Alivia Joslin, then completed her five-goal night in the 73rd minute with help from Ryleigh Parker. Just moments later, Ella Edwards capped the scoring in the 73rd minute off an assist from Leyla Gomez-Perez. Adairsville head coach Dave Sexauer praised his star performer afterward. “Alexa Damer was electric tonight with her five goals,” Sexauer said. “They had no answer for her speed and power. Bethany Kilgore had some nice saves in goal, and our defensive backs played well.” The Lady Tigers also honored their six seniors during the evening. With the win, Adairsville improves to 8-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Region 7-AAA. LaFayette falls to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the region. The Lady Tigers return to action next Tuesday when they host Gilmer.

Gilmer led 1-0 through the first four innings, but Adairsville scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. The Bobcats added a run in the sixth, and the Tigers scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Hudson Parr collected the pitching victory for Adairsville with a seven-inning, complete-game performance. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Brody Varner and Westin Barfield each had one hit and two RBI for the Tigers. Tyler Parker (double) and Harrison Cole had the other Adairsville base hits. McCayden Hufstetler outdueled Cooper Cochran of Gilmer by tossing a complete-game two-hitter. He gave up one earned run, walked two, and struck out six to earn the pitching win. Adairsville scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Gilmer tied the game in the top of the third, and the Tigers pushed across the deciding run in the fourth on a Bobcats’ defensive miscue. Westin Barfield had two hits for the Tigers. Harrison Cole, Hudson Parr, Matthew Cook, Evan Hardin, and Hufstetler (RBI) contributed one hit each. Gilmer (5-7, 1-3) will host Adairsville (10-4, 2-2) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The two teams will conclude the region three-game series on Friday at 5:30 p.m. back at Adairsville.
