Cartersville falls twice Saturday at Score International tourney

The Cartersville softball team lost a pair of games Saturday participating in the Chattanooga Score International Invitational Tournament hosted by Gordon Lee.

The Lady Canes lost to Lovett 9-6 and Gordon Lee 11-2.

In the loss to Lovett, Cartersville led 2-0 in the first inning but the Lions scored nine runs across the second through fifth innings to build a 9-3 advantage.

The Hurricanes scored three runs in the fifth to cut into that lead, but got no closer.

Campbell Rogers had two hits for Cartersville including a double. McKinley Chada had a double and two RBIs Kiley Arnold also doubled with one RBI. Mikey Lewis amd Ava Perkins added one hit and one RBI each.

Gordon Lee took control of their game with the Canes by scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. The Trojans added to their lead and were ahead 11-0 before Cartersville’s Taff Bradley hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Canes had three other hits — all singles — by Mikey Lewis, McKinley Chada, and Ava Perkins.

Cartersville (9-11) is scheduled for a home doubleheader Monday starting at 5 p.m. against Denmark and will travel to Coahulla Creek Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
