Chada (6 IP, 4R, 2ER, 7H, 4BB, 2K) limited Calhoun to only two earned runs and struck out two in six innings of work but was saddled with the loss. Maggie McBrayer earned the pitching win for Calhoun. She fanned seven while scattering three hits and two walks. Calhoun (7-6, 6-0) broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead. Lyndi Rae Davis — who finished with three hits including two doubles and two RBIs — added an insurance run with a solo homer in the fifth. The Lady Canes will play Cass in the opener at 9 a.m. RINGGOLD 10, ADAIRSVILLE 3 Ringgold remained atop the Region 6-AAA softball standings Thursday night with a 10-3 win at Adairsville. Ringgold built a 6-1 lead through the first four innings and added on four more runs in the last two frames to secure the win. Taylor Layne (7 IP, 3R, 2ER, 8H, 3BB, 1K) was the winning pitcher for the visiting Tigers. Adairsville volleyball defeated North Murray Tuesday night 25-21 and 25-13. Kaylee Jordan finished with four kills, four digs, and one ace. Annie McCormick had five assists, two digs, a kill and one ace. Grace Collins totaled five digs and two aces. Aaliyah Applin tossed in four digs and two aces and Lexie Childers added four assists, one dig, and one kill. The Tigers improved to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in Region 6-AAA. The Lady Tigers will host the Bartow County tournament Saturday with action beginning at 9 a.m. CARTERSVILLE DEFEATS COAHULLA CREEK, RINGGOLD Cartersville volleyball swept Coahulla Creek and Ringgold Tuesday evening at home to improve to 7-6 on the season. The Canes beat Coahulla Creek 25-10 and 25-17. They defeated Ringgold 25-11 and 25-17. CASS, WOODLAND LOSE AT HOME Cass volleyball dropped a non-region match Tuesday to visiting Bremen in straight sets. The Blue Devils won 25-15 and 25-10. Woodland fell in a home, Region 7-AAAAA match to Blessed Trinity Tuesday night. The visiting Titans won 25-4 and 25-9.

Sadye Johnson added a double and two RBIs while McKenzie Pullam and Makayla Wade contributed one hit apiece for the Lady Tigers. The Cass softball team picked up an important Region 7-AAAAA victory Saturday by defeating Blessed Trinity 8-4. The visiting Titans took an early 3-0 lead but a four-run third inning gave the Lady Colonels their first lead. Blessed Trinity (4-3, 3-3) tied the score 4-4 with a run in the top of the fourth inning but Cass scored four times over their final three frames for the victory. Cass pitcher Kylee Hembree (7 IP, 4ER, 7H, 6BB, 2K) went the distance in the circle for the win. Alexis Woods tripled twice, scored twice, and drove in a run for the Colonels’ offense. Woodland lost a pair of tournament games played Saturday afternoon at Adams Park. The games in Kennesaw were part of the annual Allatoona High School Bucs Bash. The Lady Cats fell 11-8 to Creekview and 11-7 to Harrison. CREEKVIEW 11, WOODLAND 8 The Lady Cats rallied to tie the game twice Saturday, but Creekview posted three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a pair of home runs to escape with an 11-8 win. The Grizzlies led 7-0 through three innings, but Woodland scored seven runs of their own in the fourth to tie the game. Creekview again led 8-7 heading to the sixth inning before the Lady Cats knotted the score again at 8-all. Lainey Baker and Kailey Baker hit back-to-back home runs for Woodland in the fourth inning. She picked up her first win of the year with a complete game effort against Denmark. “McKinley has done an excellent job in the circle this season,” said Cartersville head softball coach Shannon Suarez. “She has worked out of jams with minimal damage and induced key outs when they were needed most.” Chada carries a 4.1 GPA as an honor student and also plays travel softball. She plans to be a pre-med major in college. She is the daughter of Erich and Kristen Chada. Brentley Durham is the August 2020 Elite Athlete of the Month for Adairsville High School. A senior and right side hitter for the Tigers’ volleyball team, Durham also serves as the team captain. “Brentley is the kind of player a coach would want to keep on the team forever,” said Adairsville volleyball coach Kailey Martin. “She has integrity, passion, and determination. Mature beyond her years, Brentley is extremely dependable. She sets goals for herself and I love the look on her face when she blocks her target. She is a joy to watch on the court and I’m confident she will conquer the outside world after high school.” The daughter of Brent and Mandi Durham is also an outstanding student. The Woodland softball team picked up a pair of run-rule victories Friday evening as they opened play in the annual Allatoona Buccaneer Bash tournament. Both games were played at Twins Creek Park in Woodstock. The Lady Cats started their night with a 10-run first inning to launch a 16-0 victory over Marietta and later separated themselves from Campbell with a 10-run inning to defeat the Spartans, 13-3. Pitcher Lainey Baker allowed only one hit in the three-inning win over Marietta. She fanned eight. Cassie Jones earned the pitching victory over Campbell by scattering eight hits and a walk over five innings of work. Jones struck out three. Michiah Hicks led the Lady Cats’ offense with six hits, including a double, and six RBIs across the two games. Kailey Baker had four hits, including a double, and three RBIs with a sacrifice fly while Cambrie Carrington added three hits, including a double, and one RBI in the twin bill sweep. Lafayette out hit Adairsville 13-1 in the contest five Ramblers collecting at least two hits each. Makayla Wade had the lone Tigers’ hit in the second inning. Haynie Gilstrap (7 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 5K) tossed the one-hitter for Lafayette (3-6, 2-6). The volleyball teams at Adairsville, Cass, and Woodland all suffered losses Thursday. Adairsville lost at Murray County 25-16 and 25-16 in a Region 6-AAA match. The Tigers also fell to Ringgold 25-12 and 25-15. Kaylee Jordan had four digs and one kill against Murray. Blair Richlyn contributed a pair of kills and one dig. CASS 12, CARTERSVILLE 9 For the second time this season, the Lady Colonels rallied late to overcome a local region rival to earn a doubleheader split. In Game 2 Wednesday night, Cass trailed 5-2 early and was behind 9-4 heading to their home-half of the fifth inning. The Colonels rallied, however, for three runs in the fifth on a Kendyl Hardin home run and five more runs in the sixth inning. The key blow in the sixth was a three-run double by Haley Smith. Kylee Hembree (6 IP, 7ER, 9H, 6BB, 2K) earned the pitching win for Cass in relief of starter Rachael Lee (1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB). Hardin sparked the Colonels’ offense with three hits including her three-run blast and a total of four RBIs. Smith also finished with three hits including a double and three RBIs. K Allen contributed a pair of hits and one RBI. Hembree had one hit and Alexis Woods drove in one run. Cartersville totaled 11 hits led by three safeties from AnnaKate McElhaney including three RBIs. Ava Perkins finished with two hits including a triple and three RBIs. Mikey Lewis had two hits and one RBI and Amelia Elrod also had a pair of hits. Kiley Arnold doubled with one RBI on a sacrifice fly and Campbell Rogers tossed in one base hit. Arnold (5.1 IP, 7R, 4ER, 9H, 1BB) and McKinley Chada (0.2 IP, 5ER, 4BB) shared the pitching duties for Cartersville in Game 2. Cartersville (2-8, 1-3) travels to Blessed Trinity for a 5 p.m. start Thursday. Cass (7-3, 2-2) travels to Calhoun Thursday for a 5 p.m. first pitch. WOODLAND 7, BLESSED TRINITY 0 Lainey Baker tossed a three-hit shutout Wednesday evening in the opening game of a Region 7-AAAAA doubleheader with Blessed Trinity as the Lady Cats cruised to a 7-0 victory. Baker struck out 14 and did not walk a batter in her seven innings of work in the circle. Woodland scored twice in the home half of the first inning, then added a single insurance run in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth. Morgan Cooper paced the Woodland offense with two hits including a double. Ansley Evans also collected two hits with one RBI. Jessica Ryan (2 RBI) and Michiah Hicks (RBI) added the other Lady Cats’ hits. Kailey Baker contributed one RBI. WOODLAND 7, BLESSED TRINITY 2 In Game 2 Wednesday night, Blessed Trinity grabbed an early 2-0 lead but the Lady Cats revved up the offense for seven runs over the next five frames for a 7-2 win and doubleheader sweep of the visiting Titans. Meanwhile, Woodland pitchers Peyton Dorn (4 IP, 2R, 1ER, 5H, 0BB) and Lainey Baker (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) kept Blessed Trinity off the scoreboard after the second inning with Dorn picking up the pitching win. Kailey Baker (2 RBI) led three Lady Cats with two hits each. Michiah Hicks (RBI) and Ansley Evans also had two hits. Morgan Cooper (RBI) and Lainey Baker (RBI) both contributed doubles and Dylynn Motes ignited the Woodland offense with a solo home run in the second inning. Cassie Jones and Jessica Ryan added one hit each. Sydney Lancaster had a three-hit game for the Titans. Blessed Trinity slipped to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in Region 7-AAAAA. Woodland (5-2, 3-1) will host Hiram in region action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and will play in the Allatoona Bucs Bash Friday and Saturday at Twins Creek and Adams Parks. ROCKMART 8, ADAIRSVILLE 1 The Lady Tigers lost a Region 6-AAA matchup Wednesday evening at Rockmart, 8-1. The host Yellow Jackets led 3-1 after three innings and added four more runs in the fourth to take control 7-1. Rockmart added another insurance run in the sixth as they pounded out a dozen hits. Sadye Johnson (double), Alyssa Jarrett (RBI), McKenzie Pullam, and Chelsea Batea had hits for Adairsville. Gracey Arnold, Megan Johnson, and Alexis Teems combined for seven hits and six RBIs for the Rockmart attack. Arnold and Johnson homered for the Jackets. Taylor Rhoades (3.1 IP, 7R, 6ER, 8H, 1BB, 3K) suffered the pitching loss for Adairsville. Batea (2.2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB) also pitched for the Tigers. Rockmart improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in region play. Adairsville (6-2, 2-2) travels to region foe Lafayette Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. start.

Woodland lost a very close Region 7-AAAAA match Tuesday night at Hiram, 25-21 and 25-20. The contest was the opener in region play for both teams. Later in the evening, the Wildcats won the opening set but ultimately lost a non-region match against McEachern. Woodland took the first set 25-15 before dropping the middle set 25-14 and the third set 25-12. Sydney Molinaro paced Woodland with 13 kills, 12 digs, seven assists, three aces, and two blocks in the two matches. Delaney Tuplin contributed seven digs, six aces, and five kills. The Lady Cats (1-7, 0-1) travel to Gordon Central Thursday for non-region action where they will also face Haralson County.
