Sam Howard was promoted back to the MLB Colorado Rockies' roster Saturday and Connor Justus of the L.A. Angels' organization continued his offensive resurgence with the Inland Empire 66ers of the California League. SAM HOWARD -- Colorado Rockies (5th yr. pro; LHP; Georgia Southern; Cartersville HS)… For the second time this season, Howard was promoted to the major league club from Triple-A Albuquerque. The move took place this past Saturday, but he did not appear in either of the Rockies’ games prior to this week’s All-Star Game break. Howard, age 25, was called up to the parent club for the first time this season on June 9 and made his MLB debut against Arizona on June 10. He allowed one hit in one inning of work in that appearance. In 14 starts this season with Albuquerque, the southpaw is 3-6 with a 5.43 ERA (68 IP, 41 ER). He has 55 strikeouts and 26 walks. Howard’s career Minor League record is 29-35 with a 3.83 ERA (538.2 IP, 229 ER) in 102 starts (104 appearances) since 2014. CONNOR JUSTUS — Inland Empire 66ers (3rd yr. pro; MIF; Advanced Class A California League; L.A. Angels organization; Georgia Tech; Cartersville HS)… In 22 games since his return to Inland Empire, Justus has a .300 batting average with four home runs, nine extra base hits, 15 RBI, and a pair of walks. He has hit safely in 17 of 22 games, including nine of the last 11. For the season with the 66ers and the Double-A Mobile BayBears, Justus is now hitting .220 with 28 RBI in 79 games. Inland Empire is 13-12 in the California League’s second half standings and trails South Division leader rancho Cucamonga by seven games. ANTHONY SEIGLER — GCL Yankees West (1st yr. pro; C; Rookie Gulf Coast League; N.Y. Yankees organization; Cartersville HS)… has not appeared in a Yankees West game since July 4 when he had two hits and drew a walk. According to a tweet last week by NDNSPORTS.com, Seigler "has not played in a week because of a 'minor hamstring issue.' " He also threw out a runner attempting to steal third. Drafted 23rd overall this past June, Seigler has slashed .381/.500/.476 through his first seven pro games. The Yankees West (11-10) are in fourth place in the GCL Northwest Division and trail the GCL Tigers West by three games. The GCL Yankees West play their home games at the Yankees spring training complex in Tampa.

Cartersville Little League 12U bounced back from a Saturday opening round loss at the state Little League tournament to trounce Chatham County Little League 19-0 Sunday afternoon in Cobb County. Caleb Daniel and Ayden Ray hit second inning home runs and Cartersville built an early 7-0 Sunday to support Gavin Shrewsbury’s four-inning, complete-game, one-hitter. ​​ Shrewsbury (photo below) fanned ten and did not walk a batter in collecting the pitching win. Cartersville scored three or more runs in each of their four offensive frames. The locals posted three runs in the first inning, four in the second, seven in the third, and five more runs in the fourth inning as they pounded out 14 hits in the game. In addition to their homers, Daniel and Ray combined to reach base in all eight plate appearances and combined for 10 RBI. Daniel (photo right) finished the day 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored. Ray was 3-for-3 with a walk, double, home run, six RBI, and a pair of runs scored. Miles Owen contributed two hits including a double and one RBI. Owen also walked twice. Shrewsbury added a double and four RBI at the plate. Sawyer Wilson had one hit and one RBI. Connor Stermer, Connor Brasfield, and Turner Abernathy supplied one hit apiece. Trenton Payne and Easton Elrod drove in one run each. Cartersville, now 1-1 in the state tournament, advances to face Belvedere Little League from Decatur Monday night at 8:30 p.m. in another elimination game at the Smyrna Little League complex. The Colorado Rockies announced Saturday that they have recalled Cartersville native Sam Howard from Triple-A Albuquerque along with right-handed pitcher Jon Gray. A pair of local Little League baseball teams lost their opening games of state tournaments Saturday. The Bartow County Junior Little League 14U team fell to West Point 5-1 in Athens while Cartersville Little League's 12U all-stars lost to Peachtree City 11-3 in Smyrna. Bartow County Junior Little League (13-14 year olds) dropped its opening game at the Georgia Little League State Tournament Saturday morning in Athens. The locals took a brief lead, but fell 5-1 to West Point Junior Little League in both teams’ state tournament opening game. Bartow County scored its only run of the game and took a brief lead in the top of the first inning. Patrick Shelley reached on a walk and scored following a single by Colton Wilson and a fielder’s choice grounder by Brice Craig. Bartow moved baserunners to third in the second and fourth innings, but were unable to push another run across. West Point out hit Bartow County seven to three in the contest and took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added two more runs in the fourth inning and an insurance run in the sixth for a 5-1 final. Shelley started on the mound for Bartow and was tagged with the loss. Plank picked up the pitching win for West Point. Although the loss does not eliminate Cartersville in the double-elimination event, it does mean the locals will need seven straight wins to capture the state title and advance to the Southeast Regionals. The game started several hours later than originally scheduled due to lightning and rain delays, but both offenses started fast. Hitting as the visiting team in the top of the first inning, Cartersville’s Caleb Daniel singled with one out to start an eventful opening frame for both teams. Daniel stole second and moved to third on a two-out base hit by Ayden Ray. Connor Brasfield then followed with a three-run homer and Cartersville held an early 3-0 edge. Peachtree City immediately responded in the bottom of the first inning, however, with five runs of their own. Four hits in the inning, along with a pair of walks, a sac fly, a groundout RBI, and an infield error put Peachtree City ahead 5-3. After Cartersville went down in order in the second inning, Peachtree City tacked on three more runs to take an 8-3 lead. A leadoff bunt single was followed by a two-run home run. Then a double and a sac fly after a passed ball built Peachtree City a five-run lead. Following a scoreless third inning, another three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning by Peachtree City essentially spelled Cartersville’s demise. After two outs in the inning, Peachtree City scored three times on a walk, a pair of defensive miscues, and two singles. Meanwhile, Peachtree City pitchers kept the Cartersville offense bottled up over the final five innings. Their starter worked into the sixth inning and totaled 13 strikeouts with only one walk. Cartersville had a pair of baserunners in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth on Ray’s second hit of the game, but they did not score again. Connor Stermer (1 IP, 5R, 4ER, 4H, 2BB) started on the mound for Cartersville and suffered the pitching loss with one complete inning. Brasfield (3.1 IP, 6R, 2ER, 6H, 1BB, 3K) worked in middle relief and Gavin Shrewsbury retired the final two outs. After winning the Georgia Little League baseball District 1 championship June 23-27, Cartersville Little League’s 12U baseball all-stars will now challenge for the 2018 Georgia Little League Baseball state championship. The tournament opens Saturday and is hosted by Smyrna Little League in Cobb County. Cartersville Little League 12U went undefeated in the district tournament with three straight wins to advance to the state tournament. Cartersville topped Bartow County 7-2 before sweeping Rockmart 2-0 and 16-1 to claim the title. Cartersville will face Peachtree City Little League in both teams’ opening state tournament game Saturday at 1 p.m. The double-elimination tournament continues through at least Saturday, July 21 with a potential second championship game on July 22 if needed. WSEBL Women's result for July 10: Baseline-3 44, Flex Nation 40 In the lone WSEBL game on Tuesday evening, Baseline-3 had to come from behind in the second half to clip Flex Nation in the closing moments. Flex got out to a 19-7 lead in the early going, behind four long-range shots by Alexis Garnigan. Amber Bowen and Sandy Almon were able to get some offense going, to trim Baseline-3’s lead to 21-16 by the half. Flex maintained its spread for much of the second half, behind clutch baskets from Lauren Womack. But, Amber Bowen scored the final seven points for Baseline-3, including to convincing freethrows in the waning seconds, to help push her squad to the win. For Flex Nation (0-1), Garnigan and Womack finished with 12 and 10, respectively, while Carly Briggs got eight. Bowen and Almon each had 18, for Baseline-3 (1-0), as Keke Swain also contributed six. SEBL City Conference B-League Recaps for July 10: SH-Baseline-2 76, Team Alumni 65 SH-Baseline-2 had a relatively comfortable 44-34 lead at the intermission, with 15 first half points from Jeremiah Shaw, but found themselves in a dog-fight in the second half, after Courtney Gamble and Dustin Glenn generated three treys, to get back in the game. Down the stretch, SHB2 was able to regain control with a timely 8-0 run, coming on two treys from Korley Grier and a lay-in by Markel Williams. Team Alumni (0-2) could not mount another drive late in the game. For Team Alumni, Talique Cochran led the way with 17, as Gamble had 16 and Glenn 11. Ken Shaw also had nine in the losing effort. Shaw paced SHB2 (2-0) with 26, while Williams had 21 and Grier 20. BC Infinity 61, GSM Ballers 58 Kingsley Okezie exploded for 35 points, to fuel Infinity to a hard-fought victory over GSM. Infinity started strong, with consistent scoring from Okezie, who downed four treys in the first half, along with production from Latrel Jones. Pat Printup collected nine in the first half for GSM, but his team trailed 34-25 at the break. Blake Clay and Bryan Owens got in the act in the second half, to help GSM make things interesting, but down the stretch Okezie was too much and Infinity was six of six at the line in the closing moments. GSM (0-2) was paced by Printup with 14, Sammie Frazier with 11, while Clay and Justen Beavers both had nine. Infinity, who moved to 1-1, Okezie, who also went 12 of 12 from the charity stripe, got help from Jones who finished with 12 and Dominique Richards’ eight points. SH-Warriors 74, Toyo-2 66 The Warriors were able to muster up an impressive effort to get by a bolstered Toyo-2 roster, who added several top-notch players. Chaz Phillips gave SHW a boost early on as he found his mark for four threes. Toyo-2 stayed within striking with balanced scoring from Brandon Byers (Texas Southern) and Josh Christian. Elijah Windom got a lay-in with 2:06 left in the half to cut Toyo-2’s deficit to 34-32, but the Warriors answered with three consecutive buckets, on a lay-up from Walter Brown, followed by a drive to the basket by Cade Archer, and a steal and cut for another lay-in for Archer at the buzzer – allowing SHW to enjoy a 40-32 lead at the break. Toyo-2 stepped up their defensive pressure in the second half, to which Brown took advantage by taking the ball the length of the court for two resounding slams. Toyo-2 fought back to trim their deficit to one on several occasions, on buckets from Bobby Smith (Southern Poly) and VJ Saxton (Southern Union). Later, Jozell Payne sank two free throws to get Toyo to within 66-64 with only 1:59 left. But, Tory Smith answered immediately with a power drive into the lane with a shot off the glass. Saxton then answered again for Toyo, but again, SHW answered with a lay-in off a tip pass from Brown-to-Archer-to-Smith for the basket at the 0:58 mark, to go up 70-66. Toyo-2 could not answer, as Smith missed the front-end of a one-and-one. Archer then slipped behind the Toyo-2 defense for a score with only 35 seconds showing, followed by another streaking bucket after another Toyo-2 miss, to seal the win. Toyo-2 (0-2) got 15 from Payne, with Smith and Byers both netting 12 and Saxton 10. Christian finished with nine. Men's SEBL Metro Conference A-League results for July 11: Shaw Industries 81, OG’s 56 Shaw opened up a see-saw affair half-way through the second half, after the OG’s gifted them multiple technical fouls, turning a hard-played game into a relative farce. Before the game started to go south, the score was knotted at 35-all, but Shaw took advantage, outscoring the OG’s 46-21 the rest of the way. Shaquille Hopson led the OG’s (0-2) with 19, while Reggie King and Chris Brown each had 12 and Dee Henderson got eight. For Shaw, who moved to 1-1, Randy McClure (Albany State) downed 18 of his 25 in the second half, as Malik Rush (Maryville College) had 21 and Kwame Peek 16. Franklin Ford 74, Bartow Braves 70 Franklin Ford came from as many as 19 down to surprise the Bartow Braves. The Braves seemed to have had the game in hand, leading 37-21 at the half, behind balanced scoring from Richard Olson (GANW Tech) and Josh Wilson. But, in the second half, JR Davis (GHC) and Corey Tobin (Reinhardt) finally got heated up for Franklin Ford, as they began a steady and meticulous march back into the game. Tobin downed four treys, while Davis repetitively drove the lane and hit a few threes of his own. Chris Brock (KSU) also woke up with a couple of big threes for Franklin in the second stanza. Down the stretch, Tim Fortenberry (Bryan College) helped the Braves regain the lead at several junctures, but a steal by Talique Cochran (Miles College) with only 38 seconds left gave Franklin the lead for good at 72-70. The Braves could not answer in the closing seconds. For the Braves (1-1), Wilson finished with 25 on the night, while Fortenberry downed 22 and Olson 13. Franklin Ford (1-1) got balanced scoring from Davis with 16, Tobin 15 and Blake Clay 13. Brock and Cochran also reach double-figures, with 12 and 11, respectively. Baseline-1 95, Toyo-1 71 Baseline-1 jumped out early, then fought off several Toyo-1 rallies, to eventually pull away for the 95-71 win. Bryce Gober (Concordia) got this cranked up with three long-range bombs and strong drives by Ryan Davis (Francis Marion), as Baseline-1 quickly built a double-digit lead, but Toyo-1 bounced back with buckets from Quan Martin (South GA Tech) and Donlin Hinton. Still clinging to a 32-28 lead, Baseline-1 went on a 15-4 run to end the half, triggered by a combination of buckets from AJ Mosby (Alcorn), CJ Bennett and Cade Archer. Baseline-1 led 47-32 at the half. In the second, Toyo-1 again inched back under 10 on several occasions, but Mosby and Davis fueled another big Baseline-1 run down the stretch. For Toyo-1, who slipped to 0-2, Martin led the way with 22, while VJ Saxton (Southern Union) had 16 and Hinton 13. Baseline-1 moved to 2-0 behind the balanced effort of Davis with 24, Mosby 22 and Archer 16. Gober finished up with 13 and Bennet 12. Summer Hill-1 82, Dream Chaserz 81 Summer Hill-1 fought from behind all night, but worked back into the game late, to clip the Dream Chaserz in the closing minute. The Dream Chaserz came out on fire behind the perimeter shooting of Anthony Hilliard (Dalton State) and Brannon Hopkins (Point Univ), as they combined for four threes in the early going. Summer Hill-1 found themselves down big before shoring up the perimeter defense and beginning to score themselves. Antonio Wade (Oklahoma Baptist) downed a few long shots himself and Davy Fisher (Mississippi College) got free for some baskets around the paint, to help SH1 keep within striking distance. The Dream Chaserz took a 43-35 spread into the intermission. In the second, the Dream Chaserz again caught fire from outside, behind Logan Shoffner (Clark-Atlanta) and Hopkins. But, SH1 began closing the gap defensively and forcing misses, allowing for transition buckets off the long misses. Eventually, Summer Hill worked its way back into the game. The Cartersville Little League 10U baseball team placed fourth at the Georgia Little League 10U State Tournament at Dudley Little League just west of Dublin after dropping their second game of the tournament Wednesday night. Cartersville fell to Warner Robins American Little League 7-1. Warner Robins, who out hit Cartersville ten to four, scored at least one run in each of the first four frames to build a 7-0 lead. Cartersville mustered its only run in the top of the fifth inning. Brayden Channell reached on an infield error to start Cartersville’s fifth inning. Lyle Woody and Asa Mitcham had hits in the inning to help produce the run. Griffin Woodall had the other Cartersville base hit in the third inning. “We had some chances,” said Cartersville Little League 10U manager Ty Mitcham. “We stranded a lot of runners. We could have made it close with opportunities in the third and fifth innings, but couldn’t get the key hits in those opportunities. It was a tough loss,” Mitcham concluded. Cartersville finished fourth in the double-elimination state tournament with a 2-2 mark. The locals qualified for the state tournament by winning the Georgia District 1 championship. They had state tournament wins over Toccoa and Smyrna. Their other loss was to Martinez Evans. The final three teams alive for the state title are Martinez Evans (2-1), Warner Robins American (3-1), and Northern-Columbus (3-0). Play continues through Friday night with a potential second state championship game on Saturday morning if needed. The Georgia winner will advance to the Tournament of State Champions July 20-22 in Greenville, NC. Little League state tournament baseball and GRPA state baseball tournament action was unkind to local teams late Tuesday and Wednesday with four local teams falling in elimination games. Cartersville Little League 11U and Bartow County Senior Little League 16U teams were knocked out of their tournaments with losses, along with Bartow County’s 10U team and the Cartersville 12U team at their respective GRPA State Tournaments. CARTERSVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE 11U FALLS TO SMYRNA The Cartersville Little League baseball 11U all-stars lost to Smyrna Blue 11U Wednesday night 12-2 and were eliminated from the Georgia Little League 11U state tournament at Rudy York Field in Atco. Smyrna took control early by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and Cartersville was never able to recover. Cartersville managed two runs in the second inning, but would get no closer. Cameron Cochran doubled home Maddox Frazier for Cartersville’s first run. Frazier had doubled to start the inning. Cochran moved to third base on a passed ball and scored when Andrew Lutjens reached on an infield error. Cartersville managed only one more single by Brodie McWhorter in the fourth inning. Cartersville finished 2-2 in the state tournament with wins over Athens and Warner Robins American. Their other loss was to Northern-Columbus. CARTERSVILLE 12U FALLS AT GRPA STATE TOURNEY The Cartersville Recreation Department’s 12U baseball team split a pair of games Wednesday at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association 12U State Tournament at E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton, but a loss in the second game knocked Cartersville out of the tournament. Cartersville finished 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament with a losses to East Point and Savannah sandwiched around a win over Clayton County. Cartersville 12U 22, Clayton County Braves 4 Cartersville 12U routed the Clayton County Braves Wednesday afternoon in a game that was halted in the top of the fourth inning. Cartersville mounted a dozen hits, but also took advantage of 21 walks and a hit batsman to advance in the loser’s bracket of the tournament. The locals also ran wild on the base paths, collecting 27 stolen bases as a team. Cartersville led 12-4 after three innings and had scored ten more runs in the top of the fourth when the game was halted with no outs in the frame. The locals improved to 1-1 in the event after a first round loss to East Point. Cartersville pitcher, Charlie Crum (3 IP, 4ER, 2H, 6BB, 5K), collected the abbreviated, complete-game pitching victory and five Cartersville hitters had two-hit games. Collin Genrich was 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBI, and scored three times. Davis Wilkey was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch. Wilkey added two RBI and two runs scored. Eli Jones finished 2-for-2 with three walks, two RBI, and scored twice. Drew Perry was 2-for-2 with two walks and Charlie Crum went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and one RBI. Brett Goode added a double, a walk, a run, and three RBI in four plate appearances. Lee Camp finished 1-for-2 with three walks, three runs, and three RBI. Adam Cornwell drew four walks and Trevor Harris reached three times on a base on balls. Both Cornwell and Harris crossed the plate three times. Harris swiped five bases in the game, followed by Cornwell, Perry, Genrich, Camp and Jones with four each. Wilkey and Goode were also credited with a stolen base. Game On Savannah Elite 13, Cartersville 12U 2 In an elimination game Wednesday afternoon at the GRPA 12U Major Baseball State Tournament, Cartersville fell to Game On Savannah Elite, 13-2. Savannah took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Cartersville narrowed the margin to 3-2 in the third inning. Savannah pulled away over the next two frames, however, with ten unanswered runs. Game On Savannah Elite out hit Cartersville twelve to six and had the game’s only extra base hits with a pair of doubles and a solo home run. Drew Perry led Cartersville with two hits. Eli Jones, Davis Wilkey, Brett Goode, and Collin Genrich had the other Cartersville base hits. BARTOW COUNTY REC 10U BASEBALL ELIMINATED AT GRPA STATE TOURNAMENT The Bartow County Recreation Department’s 10U baseball team won one of three games at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament in Bainbridge and finished in 5th place. In game one, Bartow lost to Clayton County 10-0. Kaiden Coker recorded the only hit for Bartow. Drew Nida, Luke Hight, and Rush Faulk all pitched for Bartow. Game two went more favorably for Bartow, as they won 10-3 over Dublin-Laurens County. Graham Coheley had two hits to lead Bartow. Jaden Daise, Faulk, Hight, Landon Lamb, and Noah Jansen each recorded one hit each. Coheley also had two RBI's. Kaiden Coker got the win on the mound allowing no runs, no hits, no walks, and recording two strikeouts in his two innings. Noah Jansen pitched three innings in relief allowing three runs, three hits, with no walks or strikeouts. Bartow fell out of the tournament after their third game losing 8-4 to South Bryan County. Drazen Jones had the only hit in the game for Bartow. Hight and Lamb each had one RBI. Evan Hardin and Jones each pitched for Bartow. Hardin went two innings allowing eight runs on seven hits, with one walk, and two strikeouts. Jones, in his one inning allowed no runs on one hit with no walks, and one strikeout. BARTOW SENIOR LITTLE LEAGUE OUT AT STATE TOURNEY Bartow County Senior Little League (16U) baseball dropped a 6-5 decision Tuesday night at the Georgia Senior Little League State Tournament at Harris County High School and was eliminated. Bartow Little League 16U finished the tournament with one win in three games. Their win was 11-9 over Oconee County Monday after an opening loss last Saturday to Martinez Evans. The Bartow County Little League 10U softball all-stars captured the 2018 Georgia Little League state championship Wednesday morning with a 2-0 shutout of Oconee County in the title game. For Bartow 10U, it was their fifth straight win in the double-elimination tournament after dropping their first game of the tournament last Sunday to Northern-Columbus, 10-0. Working their way through the loser’s bracket on Monday and Tuesday, Bartow collected elimination game victories over Toccoa (2-1), Vine Ingle (10-9), and Northern-Columbus (10-0) to reach the championship round against unbeaten Oconee County Tuesday afternoon. Bartow 10U then topped Oconee County 6-2 Tuesday to force a winner-take-all championship game on Wednesday morning. Haley Collum went the distance in the pitching circle for Bartow County in the title win. Collum, who also went 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run on offense, allowed only two hits and fanned seven in her six innings of work. Kamryn Smith and Elizabeth Hartsfield added doubles for the Bartow County offense. Nakayla Evans and Alivia Joslin had the other base hits for the locals. Evans stole a base and scored a run. Brie Patterson and Joslin each contributed one RBI. The Cartersville Little League 10U all-star baseball team improved to 2-1 at the Georgia Little League state tournament Tuesday night with a 9-7 elimination game victory over Smyrna Blue. The win advances Cartersville 10U to another elimination game Wednesday night at 8 p.m. against Warner Robins American Little League. The tournament is being played at Dudley Little League, just west of Dublin, GA. Cartersville opened the double-elimination tournament with a 5-0 win last Saturday over Toccoa, but lost to Martinez Evans Monday night, 8-3. With Tuesday’s win, Cartersville is one of four teams remaining. Martinez Evans plays Northern-Columbus Wednesday night as well with the winner securing a spot in the championship round. Both Martinez Evans and Northern are unbeaten in the state tournament. The Martinez Evans/Northern loser will play the Cartersville/Warner Robins winner in an elimination game Thursday. Tuesday night, Smyrna took an early lead with a four-run second inning before Cartersville responded with three runs in the third inning and six more in the fifth inning to take a 9-4 lead. Smyrna then rallied and sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, but a strikeout ended the threat. Smyrna posted their four runs in the second inning on three hits, a pair of walks, and two Cartersville miscues. Their sixth inning rally included two more hits, three walks, and an infield error. Cartersville utilized six pitchers in the game, including starter Asa Mitcham, Logan Buchanan, Isaiah Martin, Griffin Woodall, and Brayden Channell. The two teams matched with eight hits each. Cartersville got two hits each from Carter Rice, Mitcham, and Channell. Mitcham scored twice. Rice and Channel each scored a run. Lyle Woody and Griffin Woodall contributed a hit and one run each. Buchanan walked twice and scored a run. Matthew Morris walked and scored and Will Camp scored a run after reaching on an error in the fifth inning. It was a tough night for the Cartersville Little League 11U all-stars Tuesday as they lost for the first time at the Georgia Little League 11U State Tournament begin played at Rudy York Field in Atco. Cartersville 11U matched Northern-Columbus in hits at thirteen, but ten walks and eight errors contributed to a 20-9 loss for the locals. Both teams scored six runs in the first two innings, but Northern pulled away in the middle innings by outscoring Cartersville 9-1 in the third and fourth frames for a 15-7 advantage. Northern-Columbus got base hits from twelve different players in the game and sealed the contest with five additional runs in the top of the sixth inning to cap their 11-run victory. Casen Cochran led the Cartersville offense with a four-hit game that included a double and two RBI. Brodie McWhorter followed with three hits including a double and three RBI. Logan Shrewsbury added two hits for Cartersville. Thomas Peters and Cam Williams both had one hit and one RBI each. Andrew Lutjens doubled. Cameron Cochran added one hit. Julian Cline and Maddox Frazier each drove in a run. Northern-Columbus (2-0) advances to the championship round and will only need one more win to claim the state title. Cartersville (2-1) will play the survivor of a late Tuesday game between Warner Robins American and Smyrna Blue in an elimination game Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face Northern-Columbus in the championship round, but will need to beat them twice to win the tournament. East Point broke on top in the top of the first inning with four runs, then added three in the third and five more in the fourth inning. East Point managed only five hits off four different Cartersville pitchers, but took advantage of eleven walks, and four errors. Collin Genrich doubled in the second inning and reached third base in the frame, but that was the only real Cartersville threat. Adam Cornwell also had a base hit for the locals. With their win, East Point moves to the second round Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. against Grady County. Grady blanked the Clayton County Braves Tuesday, 21-0. Cartersville slips to the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will play the Clayton County Braves Wednesday at 2 p.m. The winner will play again at 4 p.m. against the loser of a Wednesday game between Savannah M&M and the Clayton County Pirates. The seven-team tournament continues through Friday afternoon with all games at the E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton. Bartow County Little League Softball 10U has forced a winner-take-all championship game Wednesday at the Georgia Little League Softball State Tournament by winning four consecutive elimination games after an opening round tournament loss. Bartow 10U lost its first game of the tournament Sunday to Northern-Columbus, but has since responded with a pair of wins Monday and two more Tuesday to force a second championship round game against Oconee County in the double-elimination event. Bartow 10U defeated Toccoa and Vine Ingle Monday by 2-1 and 10-9 scores. Tuesday morning, Bartow County avenged their only loss of the tournament by blanking Northern-Columbus, 10-0. That put Bartow 10U in the championship round Tuesday against Oconee County, but needing two wins to capture the state title. With a 6-2 victory over Oconee Tuesday afternoon, Bartow (4-1) has forced a decisive title game Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Hamilton Crossing Park. The Georgia state tournament winner advances to the Tournament of State Champions that begins July 20 in Clarksville, TN. Bartow 10U 6, Oconee County 2 Bartow County 10U won its fourth straight elimination game by knocking off previously unbeaten Oconee County, 6-2. Bartow took a 5-0 lead after two innings and held on for their four-run victory. Elizabeth Hartsfield had a two-run single in the first inning as Bartow took a 2-0 lead. In the second frame, Harlee Thomason singled, stole a base, and scored to give the locals a 3-0 lead before Kamryn Smith delivered a two RBI single. Oconee County (3-1) scored both of its runs and narrowed the margin to 5-2 in the fourth inning on an infield hit, a walk, and a pair of groundouts. Bartow’s final run came in the sixth inning. Carley Aspenwell had a base hit and eventually came around to provide an insurance run. Bartow 10U 10, Northern-Columbus 0 Bartow County avenged its only tournament loss with a 10-0 blanking of Northern-Columbus Tuesday morning. Lakiaya Banks led the Bartow offense by reaching base in each plate appearance. She was 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. She also reached on an infield error. Harlee Thomason was 2-for-2 with a walk and scored three times. Pitcher Kamryn Smith was 2-for-3, and Brie Patterson singled and tripled in a 2-for-4 performance. Elizabeth Hartsfield went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored a run. Haley Collum walked twice and scored two runs while Alivia Joslin also walked and scored one run. Bartow 10U 10, Vine-Ingle 9 Both teams were scoreless through three innings before Bartow took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Bartow then added eight more runs in the fifth inning for a 10-0 advantage. Vine Ingle scored five runs in their half of the fifth and threatened with four more in the sixth, but the locals held on for a one-run victory. Bartow scored two runs in the fourth inning on three walks and a single by Kamryn Smith. Their eight-run fifth inning resulted from seven walks, a Vine Ingle error, and a three-run home run by Brie Patterson. Aiden Smith had two hits including a fifth inning homer for Vine Ingle. Irene Green also added two hits. In addition to her homer, Patterson also added a sixth inning single. Smith, who fanned nine in the circle, added a stolen base and scored a run. Haley Collum walked twice and scored two runs. Lakiaya Banks walked and scored a run. Harley Hannah also reached on a base on balls. Bartow 10U 2, Toccoa 1 In Monday’s elimination game, Toccoa scored its only run in the fourth inning when Bailee Shedd singled in front of an RBI double by Carson Stone. Bartow answered in their half of the final inning with a pair of runs on their only two hits of the game. A one-out single by Lakiaya Banks and a single by Kamryn Smith started the rally. The hits were followed by a two-run error by the Toccoa shortstop that allowed Banks and Smith to score and gave Bartow a 2-1 win. The Bartow County Little League 12U softball all-stars lost 4-3 to West Point Monday and were eliminated from the Georgia State Tournament. West Point was later eliminated by Dudley Little League. Bartow finished the tournament with a 1-2 record. Dudley Little League and Harris County Little League are scheduled to meet Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in a winner-take-all championship game. Both teams have one loss in the tournament after splitting a pair of games against one another. The Georgia Little League Softball state champion will advance to the Little League Softball Southeast Region at Warner Robins beginning July 26.
