The 2013 LPGA Rookie of the Year has played in two events this year. She tied for 47th at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic in January and missed the cut April 12 at the LOTTE Championship presented by HERSHEY. The tour plays the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout this weekend at Las Colinas Country Club.

The GHSA Class AAAA state baseball playoffs get started Friday with the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes and No. 1-ranked Blessed Trinity Titans in the state's top-billed, first-round matchup in any classification. Blessed Trinity has not lost to a Georgia opponent since an 8-7 extra innings loss to Class 5A Kell on February 27. The Titans went undefeated in Region 7-AAAA (12-0) and finished the regular season with a 27-3 mark. The out-of-state opponent loss was 4-3 to Providence (Jacksonville, FL) at the Perfect Game High School Showdown at LakePoint, but the Titans avenged that loss with an 11-0 win in Jacksonville over spring break at the Providence Tournament of Champions. Blessed Trinity's other loss this season was to Etowah on February 22. The Titans cruised to 12-straight region wins over White County, West Hall, Chestatee, and Marist to win 7-AAAAA by a three game margin. Cartersville, which was also ranked No. 1 at points during the season, finished 8-4 in Region 5-AAAA and secured the No. 4 seed from that region. Troup, LaGrange, and Cedartown -- along with the Hurricanes -- are all ranked in the state's top ten in Class AAAA from Region 5-AAAA. The region is represented by a strong group of contenders. While the Canes finished with eight losses, they also have impressive wins over some of Georgia's top teams and programs including Class 7A playoff teams Walton, Lambert and Mill Creek. They defeated Class 6A playoff qualifier Johns Creek and downed Class 5A playoff qualifier Walnut Grove. Like Blessed Trinity, Cartersville fell to eventual champ Providence at the PG High School Showdown. Facing another common opponent, the Canes defeated the Titans' region-runner up Marist early in the season. Blessed Trinity is led on offense by three seniors -- Colin Davis, David Dunn, and Jake Lundkovsky. Davis, a Wofford College commit, has 10 home runs and 43 RBIs with a .411 batting average. Dunn -- headed to the Big Ten and Northwestern -- is hitting .388 and Lundkovsky is hitting .392 with 29 RBIs. Toss in sophomore C.J. Abrams hitting .450 in almost 100 at bats and senior Cole McNamee batting .330 and you have the makings of a prolific offense. The Titans have three key arms at the top of their rotation in McNamee, Patrick McNamara and Payton Glavine. The three seniors have ERAs of 0.71, 0.34, and 1.04, respectively, and are a combined 23-1 on the mound. Glavine, son of Hall of Famer Tom Glavine, is an Auburn University commit leading the Titans' staff with 56 strikeouts. The other two pitchers are right behind with 50 and 45 punch outs. McNamara is a Presbyterian College commit. McNamee is committed to Wake Forest. Cartersville will counter with their ace Anthony Seigler and sophomore Mason Barnett on the mound, then rely on the depth of a quality staff including Jake Gooch, Spencer Dickey, and J.P. Martin among others. Along with Seigler at the top of the Hurricanes’ order, the Cartersville offense will look to Devin Warner, Noah Daniel, Dickey, Martin, Gooch and Preston Welchel. That group has provided the bulk of the offense in 2017. The opening round state playoff series begins with a doubleheader at Blessed Trinity in Roswell Friday at 4:30pm. If a third game is needed in the best-of-three series, it will be Saturday at 1pm in Roswell. The winner of the Cartersville-Blessed Trinity series plays the Columbus-Thomson winner in the second round May 4-5.

The Adairsville High School baseball team dropped their final game of the 2017 season Friday at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, 5-4. The host Warriors scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and then added two more in the fourth to go up 5-1. Adairsville rallied late with a three run sixth inning to narrow the margin to 5-4, but the Tigers failed to do any further damage in the final frame. Kyler Pelfrey led off the game with a solo home run and added an RBI single in the Tigers’ three-run sixth. Adairsville took advantage of a walk and two hit batsmen in the inning. Levi Atkinson also drove in a run on a sixth-inning fielder’s choice. Garren Mauldin (6 IP, 4ER, 5H, 4BB, 7K) was the winning pitcher for the Warriors. Logan Gruetter (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB) earned a save in the seventh. Chase Powell (3.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for the Tigers. Garrett Mishoe (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 4BB, 4K) worked in middle relief and Taylor Whitley (0.1 IP, 0R, 0H) retired the final out for Adairsville on the mound. Andrew Brock led Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Sam Seaman had two hits including a double for Adairsville. Caden Gibbs added a double and Whitley had one hit. LFO wrapped up the season 12-17 overall and 5-13 in region play. Adairsville closed the year 10-19 overall and 5-13 in Region 6AAA.

Red Bud Middle School girls and the Calhoun Middle School boys track and field teams won the Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships Saturday at Calhoun. Red Bud girls finished with 109.5 points. Ashworth Middle School girls were second with 87 points, followed by Calhoun Middle 84.5, South Central Middle 60, Cartersville Middle 55, Cass Middle 47.5, Adairsville Middle 44.5, and Woodland Middle 19. Calhoun MIddle boys won with 179 points. Cartersville Middle boys were second with 90, followed by Red Bud 64, South Central 59, Cass 49, Ashworth 34, Woodland 20, and Adairsville 12. The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes of coach Stuart Chester are ranked seventh in the final regular season Class AAAA poll released by the Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine. Cartersville enters the Class AAAA state playoffs Friday with a doubleheader at top-ranked Blessed Trinity in Roswell. The two teams will play a best-of-three series. If neither team sweeps the doubleheader on Friday, a rubber game will be played Saturday -- also in Roswell. The Adairsville boys were fifth and the Lady Tigers ninth at the 2017 Region 6AAA Track and Field Championships in Calhoun that concluded Saturday. Lady Tigers Josie Summerville, Katherin Calvert, and Nakiyah Washington advance to the Class AAA State Sectionals with top 4 finishes in their respective events. Daylon Bailey, Chad Lowery, and the 4x100M relay team (Derrick Simmons, Ethan Belcher, Bryce Burgess, and Daylon Bailey) qualified for state sectionals next weekend at Pace Academy in Atlanta. The top four placers in each event qualified for state sectionals. The top eight placers in each event scored points at the region meet. Josie Summerville won the Region 6AAA shot put with a mark of 36'-9". Daylon Bailey also won the 100M with a time of 11.52. The Georgia Highlands baseball team defeated Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 8-2 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at LakePoint to salvage a split in this week’s four-game Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference series between the two teams. The Chargers won the opening game of the series Tuesday in Tifton 10-7, but lost both Friday night (4-2) and the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader, 4-0. In the series finale win, GHC scored six runs in the first inning and two more in the fourth to take control with an 8-0 lead. Chargers’ starter Drew Wilson (6.1 IP, 2R, 0ER, 6H, 4BB, 4K) kept ABAC off the scoreboard until the Golden Stallions posted a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning. Sam Sowerbrower (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB) retired the final two outs. The Chargers banged out a dozen hits led by Bronco O’Brien, Devin Bilardello, John White (RBI), and Matt Vaccaro (RBI) with two hits each. Caleb McElwaney (2 RBIs), Grant Bodison (RBI), Evan Mask (RBI), and Israel Zackery added hits in the win. In the 4-0 loss on Saturday, ABAC broke open a 1-0 game in the seventh and final inning with three additional runs. The Stallions scored on a walk and two singles in the fourth inning, then put together five hits — including a pair of doubles — for their three-run seventh inning. Five Chargers — Bilardello, Urbina, Grant Bodison, Brandon Bell, and John White had one hit each in the Saturday loss. GHC starting pitcher, Colby Taylor (6.2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 8H, 0BB, 4K), threw well despite being tagged with the loss. Britt Buckelew (0.1 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 1K) recorded the final out in the seventh. In Friday night’s 4-2 loss, Georgia Highlands used four pitchers. Matthew Norton (5 IP, 1R, 0ER, 6H, 1BB, 3K) started and tossed five solid innings. Jeremiah Woods (2 IP, 3R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) was saddled with the hard-luck loss despite not allowing an earned run. Sean Fitzpatrick walked the only batter he faced and Bradley Hood (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB) needed only 13 pitches to get through the final two shutout frames. Nick Fink hit a two-run homer to account for both Chargers’ runs. Miguel Urbina tripled and Caleb McElwaney doubled. Devin Bilardello and Matt Vaccaro each added one hit. ABAC is now 24-26 overall and 7-13 in the GCAA. With eight games remaining in the regular season conference schedule, Georgia Highlands is now 32-16 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Chargers are currently in third place behind Gordon State (13-3) and East Georgia (13-7). GHC has a four-game series with conference leading Gordon State next week with single games Tuesday in Barnesville and Thursday at LakePoint. The series also includes a doubleheader Saturday at LakePoint. The Chargers will wrap up the regular season the following week with a four-game set against West Georgia Tech. The GCAA Championship Tournament will be hosted by Georgia Highlands at LakePoint in Emerson May 10-13.

The Adairsville girls soccer team bounced back from a loss to Calhoun Thursday with a 7-1 Region 6AAA road victory at Ringgold behind another huge offensive night from Emily Collum. Adairsville (12-4, 6-3) now enters the Class AAA state playoffs as the No. 4 seed from the region and will play at Region 8AAA champ, Jackson County, on Tuesday. Friday, the Lady Tigers took a 4-1 lead by halftime on a goal by Katie Lawhorn and three from Collum. Collum, added two more goals in the second half and Chloe Cochran also scored a second half goal. Gillian Johnson and Lawhorn each contributed a pair of assists on goals. Goalkeeper Havyn Isaac picked up the win in net.

The Georgia Highlands College softball team swept a doubleheader at West Georgia Technical College Friday to finish the regular season with 40 wins. The Chargers needed extra innings to win the opener 7-6 in eight innings and took the nightcap, 8-1. Rebecca Meade and Micayla McCoy (photo) shared work in the pitching circle. Each picked up one pitching victory and one save. Andria Booth provided power in the Chargers' leadoff spot. He had a triple in the first game and hit her first home run in the nightcap. Madison Gianfala had five hits in the doubleheader. Briana Fickes and Shay Wooten both added four hits on the day. The Chargers (40-12, 19-9) finished third in conference behind Georgia Military (19-9) and ABAC (20-8). GHC will open the Region XVII Tournament Thursday at 1pm against Gordon State. The winner of that game will advance to play 2nd-seed Georgia Military Thursday at 5pm. The winner of the Region Tournament qualifies for the NJCAA Women's World Series in St. George, UT Region tournament bracket is included and will be held at Georgia Military College.

The Woodland baseball team led 4-1 after only two innings Friday night in their Senior Night game at The Ballpark at Woodland and scored four more times in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 advantage on their way to a season-ending 8-4 win over Hiram. The win helped the Wildcats to an 18-10 overall record for the season and 9-7 mark in Region 7-AAAAA, but Woodland came up one win short in their chase for the state playoffs. Villa Rica edged Paulding County 2-1 Friday to finish 10-6 in region play and eliminate Woodland. Carrollton won the region with a 14-2 region record. The Trojans were followed by East Paulding 11-5, Kell 10-6, and Villa Rica 10-6. Woodland’s Garrett Pope (6 IP, 3R, 2ER, 6H, 0BB, 7K) tossed six strong innings Friday night for the Wildcats. Tommy Peed (1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) pitched the seventh. Brycen Kellet and Jacob Frye had two hits and one RBI each for Woodland. Koby Stansel drove in two runs with one hit. Cauy Williams (RBI), Hunter Reaid, and Brandon Allen had one hit each. Jacob Harper and Noah Ludy each had one RBI. Avery Ragsdale (4 IP, 5R, 4ER, 6H, 3BB, 3K) was the losing pitcher for Hiram, but had two hits in the game and scored twice. Josh Franklyn and Levi Walker also had two hits each for the Hornets. Hiram slipped to 4-25 on the season and 2-14 in Region 7-AAAAA. Woodland finished 18-10 overall and 9-7 in the region.

The Cartersville boys soccer team defeated Sonoraville Friday night for their 13th straight win heading into the Class AAAA state playoffs. The Canes’ goals were scored by Victor Guevara and Sean Holton. Holton's goal came in the first half off an assist from Pedro Ghanem and the 1-0 lead held until the game's 70th minute when the Phoenix scored an equalizer. Cartersville responded, however, with Guevara's goal off a rebound header three minutes later to keep the win streak alive. With the loss, Sonoraville fell to 10-7-1. Cartersville improved to 14-1-2 on the season and will open the Class AAAA state playoffs next Wednesday at home against White County (6-7-3).

Calhoun pitcher Brett Potts tossed a one hitter and the Yellow Jackets scored 11 runs on 13 hits to defeat Adairsville Thursday night, 11-0. Sam Seaman had the Tigers’ hit with two outs in the first inning and Kyler Pelfrey was the only other Adairsville batter to reach base on a walk in the third inning. Potts struck out nine. Kyler Pelfrey (4 IP, 6R, 3ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) took the pitching loss in a four inning start. Sam Seaman (3 IP, 5R, 1ER, 6H, 1BB, 5K) retired the final nine outs for the Tigers. Tanner Gallman had three hits and one RBI for Calhoun. Ryan Randall (2 RBIs), Ben King (3 RBIs), Carson Kemp (RBI), and Potts (RBI) had two hits each for the Jackets. Calhoun moved to 16-11 overall and 11-6 in Region 6-AAA. Adairsville (10-18, 5-12) wraps up the 2017 season at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Friday at 5:55pm.
