Murray County scored ten runs in their first three frames Friday night and then held on for a 10-8 Region 6AAA win at Adairsville. The Tigers out hit the Indians nine to seven, but left eight men on base. Adairsville led 2-1 after one inning before the Indians posted nine runs over the next two frames to take a 10-2 lead. The Tigers added a single run in the third, two more in the fifth, and rallied in the bottom of the seventh for three more runs only come up just short. Taylor Whitley suffered the pitching loss for Adairsville, charged with eight earned runs. Levi Atkinson and Garrett Mishoe also pitched for the Tigers. Murray County utilized a trio of pitchers — Cole Sparks, Brendan Owenby, and Kyle Dotson — in their win. Halen Huskins had three hits, including a double and two RBIs for Adairsville. Hunter HIce added two hits and three RBIs. Sam Seaman had two hits including a double. Whitley drove in a run with one hit and Kyler Pelfrey had a hit. Logan Palmer drove in four runs with two hits that included a double. Kyle Dotson had two hits and two RBIs for Murray County. Murray County moved to 7-10 overall and 4-2 in region games. Adairsville (5-10, 2-4) plays at Bremen in another Region 6AAA game Tuesday at 5:55pm.

A pair of Villa Rica pitchers limited the Cass bats to only two hits Friday night as the Wildcats completed a two-game region series sweep of the Colonels at home, 4-1. Nick Corkill and Jesse Martinez combined to walk six and struck out three. The only Cass run came in the top of the third inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Villa Rica scored three times in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fourth. Clay Means and Steven Spell had the only Cass base hits. Corkill had a three-hit game at the plate for the Wildcats. Cass starting pitcher Cody Johnson (2 IP, 3R, 1ER, 7BB, 2K) did not get through the third frame and was tagged with the loss. Evan Hinton (4 IP, 1ER, 4H, 0BB, 1K) completed the game on the mound for the Colonels. Villa Rica improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in region play. Cass (11-8, 4-2) travels to Carrollton Monday and hosts the Trojans Wednesday in their next Region 7AAAAA series.

Troup County pitcher Colby Williams tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout at Richard Bell Field Friday evening to blank the Cartersville Hurricanes, 1-0. The visiting Tigers scored the game’s only run in the top of the fifth on a hit batsman and back-to-back singles. Kenly Bridwell had the Troup County RBI hit to score Cam Russell. A trio of Cartersville pitchers — Levi Ayers, Anthony Seigler, and J.P. Martin — almost matched Williams’ performance. The three Canes combined to allow only five hits, three RBIs, and fanned eight. Seigler had a pair of doubles for Cartersville. Brant Smith had the other Canes’ base hit. The Tigers improved to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in Region 5AAAA. Cartersville (13-5, 3-2) plays at Central-Carrollton Tuesday at 4:45pm and at Sandy Creek next Friday at 5:30pm.

Emily Collum scored three goals as the Adairsville Lady Tigers defeated Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Thursday night, 5-1. Chloe Cochran and Gillian Johnson also scored goals for Adairsville. Emily Emmons and Katie Lawhorn had one assist each for the Lady Tigers. Adairsville (8-2, 5-2) plays a non-region game at Central-Carrollton next Tuesday.

The Woodland soccer teams lost in Region 7AAAAA matches Thursday night to East Paulding. EAST PAULDING GIRLS 2, WOODLAND 1 The Woodland girls led 1-0 at halftime, but East Paulding scored in the 46th minute to tie 1-1 and scored the game-winner off a corner with about 10 minutes remaining. East Paulding improved to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in region play. The Lady Cats (0-10, 0-7) host a non-region match with Heritage-Catoosa next Tuesday at 5pm. EAST PAULDING BOYS 4, WOODLAND 1 The Raiders scored twice in the first 15 minutes to take a 2-0 halftime lead. Then added two more goals in the second half for a 4-0 advantage. Woodland’s Cesar Pineda scored the Wildcats’ goal in the final minutes of the second half for a 4-1 final score. The Adairsville baseball team scored a pair of first inning runs on a two-out error in the first inning and added one more run on a two-out, solo home run by Garrett Mishoe in the fifth inning for a 3-1 Region 6AAA win Thursday evening at Sonoraville. Adairsville pitchers Caden Gibbs (4 IP, 0R, 5H, 2BB, 2K) and Sam Seaman (3 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 4K) combined to shut down the Phoenix. The pair did not allow an earned run in seven combined innings. Avery Hopper (6 IP, 3R, 1ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) worked six innings from the mound for Sonoraville and allowed only one earned run, but was saddled with the loss. Chase Kirby and Gavin Phillips had two hits each for the Phoenix. Mishoe was 3-for-4 for the Tigers, including his home run. LaGrange scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning Thursday evening before Grangers’ pitcher Ben Anderson limited Cartersville to a single run over seven innings for a 2-1 Region 5AAAA decision. Anderson scattered five hits and five walks. He fanned eleven Canes. Cartersville pitcher Mason Barnett was almost as successful. He shut out the Grangers after the two-run first inning and limited LaGrange to only five hits without a walk, although he did hit two batters. Only one of the two LaGrange runs were earned and Barnett struck out five. Noah Daniel drove in the Canes’ run in the fifth inning with a two-out single to right field that scored Anthony Seigler. Ben Anderson had two hits for LaGrange. Seigler had two hits for Cartersville. Daniel, Jacob Fowler, and Spencer Dickey had the other Hurricanes’ hits. The Grangers improved to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in Region 5AAAA. Cartersville (13-4, 3-1) hosts Troup County Friday at 5:55pm at Richard Bell Field.
