Zach McCrum went 2-for-3 and hit a home run as the Chargers earned a doubleheader split with Central Alabama CC Friday night at LakePoint in Emerson. McCrum singled in the third inning and homered in the fifth. Tristan Roberts (5 IP, 0R, 3H, 6BB, 2K) picked up the pitching victory for the Chargers. Tanner Thomson (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 5K) also pitched for GHC. Georgia Highlands scored twice in the bottom of the first and added three insurance runs in the fifth. Trenton Nutter walked, Brandon Etheridge singled, and McCrum was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the first inning. Devin Bilardello drove in one run with a single and Clint Tonini coaxed a bases loaded walk for the Chargers’ second run. In the fifth, Etheridge doubled and stole third before McCrum and Daniel Gooden homered back-to-back. Central Alabama CC won the first game, 5-2. Trevor Bates had three hits and drove home a pair of runs for CACC. Nathan Langley and Chris Cusimano had two hits each. John Michael Stephens (5.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 5H, 1BB, 2K) earned the pitching win. Garrett Brown was awarded a save by recording the final four outs with one walk and a pair of strikeouts. Daniel Gooden (4 IP, 5H, 4R, 0ER, 2BB, 6K) was saddled with the pitching loss even though he did not yield an earned run. Etheridge, Bilardello, Brandon Bell, Drew Davis, Jonathan White had one hit each for the Chargers. GHC now has a 15-11 record. The Chargers play Triton College and Jefferson College Saturday at LakePoint. First pitch for the twinbill is set for 2:30pm.

The Woodland Lady Cats soccer team defeated Kell Friday night, 2-0. Woodland opened the scoring in the 33rd minute on a corner kick by Kaitlin Winnenberg redirected by Lindsay Scifers and off a Lady Longhorn defender for an own goal. Winnenberg sealed it in the 49th minute when she scored on a shot from the right side into the left corner. The game remained scoreless from that point. Keeper Sam Simmons kept the visiting Longhorns off the scoreboard for the victory in net. Woodland improved to 3-4-1 and will host River Ridge Tuesday (Mar 15) and Sequoyah on Friday, March 18. The Woodland boys team lost 2-0 to visiting Kell. Both Longhorns' goals came in the second half. The Wildcats are now 0-6. Kell is 2-4-1.

The Cass girls soccer team lost to Sequoyah Friday night, 6-0. The Lady Chiefs led 5-0 at the intermission scoring a goal in the opening three minutes, three more in a four minute span of the opening half, and another before the break. The final Sequoyah goal came in the 79th minute. The Cass girls’ season record falls to 2-6-1 overall, 0-3 in sub-region 7-AAAAA-A. The Lady Colonels entertain Pickens Tuesday (Mar 15, 5:30pm) and host Creekview Friday (Mar 18, 6pm). The Cass boys soccer team lost to Sequoyah Friday night, 2-0. Both of the Chiefs’ goals were scored on penalty kicks. The first was in the 76th minute and the second at the 79th minute. The Colonels are 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in sub-region 7-AAAAA-A.

The Adairsville Lady Tigers' tennis team moved to 3-0 on the season Thursday night with a victory over North Murray, 5-0. Kylee McCauley, Abby Asbridge, and Brantley Hughes won singles matches. Chloe Powell teamed with Cali Mealer for a win at the No. 1 doubles line. Molly Smith and MaKenzie Davis won their No. 2 line doubles match. The Adairsville girls have earlier season wins over Ringgold, 5-0, and Pepperell, 3-2.

After several frustrating offensive frames Thursday night and on an evening when the Tigers left 14 runners stranded, the Adairsville baseball team exploded for eight runs in the final inning for a come-from-behind region win at Lakeview-Fort Olgethorpe, 10-8. Orry Carter picked up the pitching victory in relief. He was one of four Tigers’ arms utilized. Lane Griffith homered and was 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead the Adairsville offense. Six other Tigers were credited with one RBI each. Carter and Hunter Hice both went 2-for-3. One of Carter’s hits was a double. Sam Seaman, Drake Arp, Dylan Hightower, and Noah O’Kelley each contributed a hit. Kyler Pelfrey (2.2 IP, 4H, 8R, 7ER, 3BB, 3K) started on the mound for Adairsville. Taylor Whitley (0.0 IP, 1BB, 1H), O’Kelley (2.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 5K), and Carter (2 IP, 0R, 0BB, 2K) worked in relief. Kyle Herrod had two hits for the Warriors. Kaleb Sowder, Dylan Hughes, Adam Wright, and Hadyn Griffin had the other LFO hits. The Warriors used four pitchers. Ethan Daniel, who did not retire a batter in the seventh was saddled with the pitching loss. Adairsville entertains Cass (Sat March 12, 4pm) and Armuchee (Mon March 14, 5:30pm) before playing three straight region games. The Tigers play region foes North Murray at home Tuesday, March 15; home against Coahulla Creek March 17; and at Sonoraville Friday, March 18. The start time for all three region games is 5:55pm.

Several local high school basketball seniors were selected to play in the Northwest Georgia Tip Off Club all-star game Thursday at the Georgia Highlands College Floyd Campus in Rome. Cartersville coaches, Mike Tobin, Cedric Ward, and Tyler Blackman were also selected to serve as coaches for the team featuring the local players that defeated the North team, 85-83. The Adairsville girls soccer team scored twice in the second half Thursday night to defeat visiting Coahulla Creek, 2-0, and remain undefeated on the year. Emily Collum scored in the 46th minute and Kaitlyn Webster in the 71st minute for the two Lady Tigers’ tallies. Haley Pittman assisted on the second goal. Havyn Isaac recorded six saves at goalkeeper for Adairsville to earn the victory in net. The coaching staff praised the defensive efforts of Mac Stevenson, Victoria Davis, Molly Carter, Ansley Leker, Emily Emmons, and Macy Hufstetler. The Lady Tigers improved to 8-0 with the win and 2-0 in Region 6-AAA. The Lady Colts slipped to 3-2. Adairsville plays Murray County next Thursday.

The Adairsville Tigers soccer team lost Thursday night at home to Coahulla Creek, 5-1. Adairsville actually out shot the visiting Colts but failed to cash in on most of the opportunities. The Tigers took 17 shots on goal with Danny Carillo scoring the only Adairsville goal. The game was scoreless at the intermission. "Coahulla Creek is a good team," noted Abernathy. "We kept in close in the first half with some great defensive play and good ball movement. We just came up a little short against a good team." Adairsville goalkeepers, B.J. Hardman (8) and Stuart Abernathy (5) combined for 13 saves. Salvador Grimaldo Jr. was credited with a goal saving defensive play as a Tiger defender. "We actually played pretty well," said Adairsvile coach Kelly Abernathy. "The boys fought hard and never gave up. They showed a lot of heart."

After winning their first round game Thursday night in the Perfect Game High School Showdown at LakePoint in Emerson, the Cartersville Hurricanes were shutout by Gulliver Prep of Miami, FL in the tournament quarterfinals, 6-0. Cartersville defeated Montverde (FL) Academy, 8-2, in the first round earlier Thursday evening. Auburn commit, Elliott Anderson (4 IP, 7H, 6ER, 4BB, 4K), suffered the pitching loss for Cartersville. Gulliver Prep took a 4-0 lead after two innings and added two more in the fourth inning. Adrian Del Castillo and Javier Valdes hit a homeruns for the Raiders in the first two innings. Javier Valdes (6 IP, 4H, 0R, 1BB, 10K) was the winning pitcher for Gulliver Prep. The Canes managed only four hits. One each from Anderson, Cole Jamieson, Zach Yancey, and Trevor Lowe. Cartersville (2-4) will play Friday at 6pm in a consolation game against McEachern. Gulliver Prep advances to Friday’s semifinals where the Raiders will face Oxford (MS) High School.

The Adairsville boys tennis team defeated North Murray Thursday night, 3-2, to improve to 1-1 in Region 6-AAA play. Houston Medlock won at the No. 1 singles line, 6-2, 6-0 and Chase Powell took the No. 2 singles line, 6-1, 6-0. Cody Kimbrough and Landon Swanson picked up the Tigers’ third win at the No. 2 doubles line, winning a three-set match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Adairsville’s Jack Bates lost at No. 3 singles 6-7, 2-6 and the Tigers’ top line doubles pair, Dylan Coker and Austin Cobb fell in a tough three-set match, 6-4, 1-6, 4-6. Adairsville will entertain Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe next Tuesday.

Lexy Wallraven of Cass and Gabby Bradley of Woodland competed in the 2nd annual Northwest Georgia Senior All-Star Game at Georgia Highlands College Floyd campus. The local players' team won 76-53 over the North all-star team. Bradley scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked two shots in the win.
