Cartersville Middle shuts out Cass, 34-0


Cartersville Middle School football shutout Cass Middle School Thursday 34-0 in Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association (BGMSAA) action.


The Canes opened the scoring with an 11-play, 70-yard drive in which they converted a pair of fourth down plays. The touchdown came on a 32-yard pass from Tee Webb to Kaison Williams with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point kick was block, but Cartersville held a 6-0 lead.


Following a three and out by the Colonels, the Canes took only three plays to drive 78 yards. Reschard Dyer scored on a 65 yard scamper. Pedro Morales added the PAT kick and Cartersville held a 13-0 advantage with 6:41 left in the second quarter.


A series later, Dyer returned a Cass punt 48 yards to the Cass 3 yard line where Williams ran it in with 1:28 remaining in the first half. Morales added the PAT kick to give Cartersville a 20-0 halftime lead.


A Cass onside kick attempt to start the second half was recovered by the Canes setting up their next scoring drive of 50 yards on six plays. Williams capped that drive with his third touchdown run from 2 yards out. Morales made the kick for a 27-0 lead with 5:32 remaining in the third quarter.


The final Cartersville score came on a Jaylon Garnigan interception return for a 29 yard touchdown. Morales added one more PAT for the Canes 34-0 win.


Cartersville remained unbeaten at 4-0, 1-0 in the South Division. Cass slipped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the division.


The CMS Canes travel to Woodland next Thursday. Cass will host South Central.
