Woodland girls advance at Rome Holiday tourney



Woodland's girls and boys basketball teams opened play in the 2015 Rome-News Tribune Holiday Tournament Monday and came away with a split of games against Cedartown. The Lady Wildcats advanced to the tournament's quarterfinal round, while the boys lost and will play next in the consolation round.

WOODLAND GIRLS 39, CEDARTOWN 32


The Lady Wildcats defeated Cedartown in the opening round of the Rome-News Tribune Holiday Tournament at the Floyd campus of Georgia Highlands College. Hayley Roberson led Woodland with 13 points, followed by Gabby Bradley with 8 and Madgie Robinson with six. Tamera Beeman scored 10 points to lead Cedartown. Shana Abram added seven for the Lady Bulldogs. Woodland improved to 2-6 for the season. Cedartown is now 3-4. Woodland advances to play Darlington Tuesday night at 7pm at Berry College in the tournament quarterfinals. Cedartown will play Trion Tuesday at 4pm at Georgia Highlands in a consolation game. The tournament continues through Friday, Dec. 18.


CEDARTOWN BOYS 55, WOODLAND 34


Walker Barrow tallied 13 points as Cedartown defeated Woodland and won for the third straight game. It also marked the first time the Bulldogs have won a game by double digits this season. Cedartown evened its season mark at 3-3 and plays Model Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Miles Minge scored 11 points for Cedartown and Trevon Wofford added 8 for the Bulldogs. Woodland (2-6) will face Peperell Tuesday at 4pm at Georgia Highlands’ Floyd campus in a consolation game.
