Lady Colonels, Colonels sweep Adairsville


The Cass girls and boys basketball teams won non-region matchups with county rival Adairsville Friday night at Cass High School


The Lady Colonels faced the Adairsville Lady Tigers Friday night in what was a hard-fought game. Cass led 12-11 after the first period and 26-22 heading into halftime. After halftime both teams still kept it close, but The Lady Colonels pulled away in the end winning 61-54.


Cass got a strong shooting performance from Jana Morning who finished with 24 points and Lexie Walraven with 12 points. Kyla Michienzi had 12 points followed by Ezzie Thomas 6 and Payton Stoddard with 5 points.


The Lady Tigers were led by Nakiyah Washington who finished with 15 points, and Chloe Powell with 8 points.


With the victory, the Lady Colonels improved their season record to 5-3. The Lady Tigers are now 1-9.


The Lady Colonels travel to River Ridge Saturday. Adairsville opens play in the Fannin County Christmas Tournament against the host team Saturday night at 7pm.


The Cass boys had a good night shooting the ball, led the entire way, and won a close one against Adairsville 68-60.


The Colonels benefited from having Ashton Burley back in the lineup after he served his two game suspension from a technical foul he received against Woodland. The Colonels were led by C.J. Bennet with 22 points followed by Mike Sims with 16 points, Noah James scored 11 points and Ashton Burley added nine. Adairsville was led by Cody Henderson with 17 points followed by Ethan Belcher with 13, Ronald Hardin scored 9 and Juan Perez tallied 8 points for the Tigers.


Cass is now 3-5 and they travel to River Ridge tomorrow. Adairsville slips to 1-7 for the year.


The Tigers open play in the Mountain Top Christmas Classic at Fannin County against Mount Paran Saturday at 2:30pm.
