Lady Colonels move back over .500 with win at Lafayette Christmas tourney

Junior guard, Esmeralda Thomas, and sophomore, Kyla Michienzi, combined for four, first quarter three-pointers as the Lady Colonels got off to a fast start in a victory at the Lafayette Christmas Tournament Tuesday. Cass took an 18-9 lead after one period and maintained a 25-18 advantage at the half. The Lady Colonels then stepped up the defensive effort in the second half to distance themselves from the Lady Bulldogs 31-15 over the final two periods and win by 23.

Cass was led in scoring by Thomas with 14. Jana Morning and Payton Stoddard also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points. Michienzi 7, Lexy Walraven 6, Chanel Clemmons 4, Alexis Ware 2, and Breanna Hutchins 2 rounded out the Lady Colonels’ scoring.

Cass improved to 6-5 on the season. Trion slipped to 3-8. The Lady Colonels play in a consolation game Wednesday at 1pm against the Lafayette/Coosa winner.
