Lady Colonels, Colonels sweep Cartersville Saturday
The Cass Lady Colonels and Colonels resolved their second half woes from the previous night to complete a non-region sweep of visiting rival Cartersville Saturday night.
CASS GIRLS 59, CARTERSVILLE 48
The Cass girls team had one of its best outings of the year Saturday night taking a wire-to-wire victory over the Lady Canes. Tied 10-10 after one quarter, the Lady Colonels' shooting touch heated up and their defense began forcing turnovers that led to fast break points. Cass took a 25-14 lead to the locker room at halftime and basically maintained that difference for the remainder of the night on their way to an 11-point win, 59-48.
Four Lady Colonels reached double figures. Esmeralda Thomas led the way with 14 points, followed by 12 each from Kyla Michienzi and Jana Morning. Payton Stoddard totaled 11. The Lady Colonels improved to 9-7 with the victory. Cartersville fell to 3-10 for the season.
CASS BOYS 64, CARTERSVILLE 60
The Colonels won a nail biting game Saturday night against the Cartersville Hurricanes. The Colonels led a slow starting first period, 12-9, but the offenses picked up the pace the rest of the way in a game that remained close throughout. The Colonels led by as many as 12 in the second half, but Cartersville narrowed that gap quickly. Late in the fourth quarter, Cartersville even managed to take a brief one point lead before the Colonels answered with a three pointer on the next trip down the floor. C.J. Bennett and Mike Sims paced the Colonels with 17 points each. Ashton Burley scored 12.
