Cass wins pair over Woodland


The Cass girls' and boys' basketball teams defeated visiting county rival Woodland Friday night to gain Region 7AAAAA wins.

CASS GIRLS 48, WOODLAND 33


The Lady Colonels broke open a close game in the third quarter and pulled away for a 15 point Region 7AAAAA victory.


Woodland led 6-5 after a slow start by both teams and Cass regained the lead 18-17 at the intermission.


The Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Cats 18-9 in the third period and 30-16 in the second half to pick up the win.


The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was Payton Stoddard with 14 points, followed by Esmeralda Thomas with 13 points, and Jana Morning with 10 points. The leading scorer for the Lady Wildcats was Gabby Bradley who had a game high 17 points. Erykah Pender and Hayley Roberson added six points each for Woodland.


Cass improved to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in 7AAAAA. Woodland is now 4-14 and 0-7 in the region.


Woodland hosts Cartersville Monday (Jan. 18) at 1:30pm.


Cass plays road games at Adairsville Saturday (Jan. 16), at Rome Tuesday (Jan. 19), and at Sequoyah Friday (Jan. 22). All three games are 6pm starts.




CASS BOYS 59, WOODLAND 31


The Colonels hosted the Woodland Wildcats on Friday night, in what was a scrappy game in the first half. The Colonels were helped by Matthew Mundy and Mike Sims who hit some huge shots in the third period. Cass led at each quarter stop, 10-7, 25-19, and 46-28.


The leading scorer for the Colonels was Mike Sims with 14 points followed by Matthew Mundy with 13 points, and Ashton Burley with 11 points. Johnathan Pritchett led Woodland with 15 points, followed by Camden Royal with five points, and Justice Hayes with four points.


Woodland (3-13 overall, 0-7 in Region 7AAAAA) hosts Cartersville Monday (Jan. 18) at 3pm. Cass (7-10 overall, 2-6 in Region 7AAAAA) plays road games at Adairsville Saturday (Jan. 16), at Rome Tuesday (Jan. 19), and at Sequoyah Friday (Jan. 22). All three tip at 7:30pm.
