Excel Christian wins twin bill; Canes rout visiting Pickens



EXCEL CHRISTIAN GIRLS 35, CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 28


Whitney Harris led the Lady Eagles with a game-high 15 points as Excel Christian improved to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in Region 6A.


The Lady Eagles led 10-1 after one period and 17-11 at the break. They extended their lead to 25-14 after three quarters and held on for the seven point win. Rylie Boston added seven points for Excel. Anna Lane Hattaway scored six, while Brighton McCollum added three. Kalli Beth Scheff and Lindsey Mauldin chipped in with two each.


Kelsey Schneller led Heritage with eight points.


Excel hosts Walker Saturday at 1:30pm and travels to Mount Paran Christian Tuesday night.



EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 70, CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 46


Darius Thrower scored 30 points, while Caleb West and Chris Hale totaled 17 each as the Eagles picked up an important Region 6A win.


Excel improved to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in region play.


The Eagles host Walker Saturday at 3pm and play at Mount Paran Christian Tuesday night.





CARTERSVILLE BOYS 92, PICKENS 40


The Hurricanes rolled up 57 first half points and cruised to a 52-point home, Region 7AAAA win Friday night at the Storm Center.


Jaylon Pugh and Cade Archer led the Canes with 20 and 18 points, respectively, as the starters were limited to only two and a half quarters of playing time with the large lead.


Cortney Cooley scored 10 points of the Cartersville bench. He was followed by Travon Davis 8, Trase Fezzia 7, Kobie Whitfield 6, Tiamon Pennymon 6, T.J. Horton 5, Daunta Bryan 4, JKobe Orr 4, and Kameron Whitfield 2.


Trent Rizoti led the visiting Dragons with 10 points.


Cartersville (11-4 overall, 7-1 in 7AAAA) surged to an early 27-11 lead after just one quarter and led 80-34 after three periods.


The Canes have a pair of non-region games coming up. They play at Rome Saturday at 4:30pm and play at Woodland Monday at 7pm.



PICKENS GIRLS 62, CARTERSVILLE 40


The visiting Lady Dragons took a 25-17 lead by halftime and extended that to 48-25 after three quarters on their way to a Region 7AAAA victory at the Storm Center Friday night.


Pickens evened their season record at 9-9 overall, while the Lady Canes slipped to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in region games.


Cartersville has non-region games at Rome Saturday at 3pm and at Woodland Monday at 5:30pm.
