Lady Cats, Canes win Monday night


Cartersville and Woodland split a pair of non-region basketball games Monday evening at Woodland High School with the Lady Cats taking the girls' game and the Purple Hurricanes winning the boys’ tilt.


WOODLAND GIRLS 39, CARTERSVILLE 33


Gabby Bradley scored 14 points and Madgie Robinson 11 to lead the Lady Wildcats. Madison McKinney led Cartersville with seven points.

With the non-region victory, Woodland is now 5-14 overall. Cartersville is now 3-13.


Woodland hosts Rome Friday at 6pm and travels to Dalton Saturday for a 3pm tip.


Cartersville plays at Northwest Whitfield Tuesday at 6pm, followed by home games with LaFayette Friday at 6pm and Kell on Saturday at 3pm.



CARTERSVILLE BOYS 71, WOODLAND 50


The Hurricanes grabbed a 26-17 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 43-25 at the halftime break on their way to a 21-point non-region win at Woodland Monday night. Jaylon Pugh scored 11 points to go with five rebounds, 3 assists, and a pair of steals for Cartersville. Teammate Isaac Gridley scored nine points, pulled seven rebounds, and added an assist.

Kobie Whitfield and Cortney Cooley scored eight points each for the Canes. Kobie Whitfield added a pair of boards with an assist and two blocked shots. Cooley dished a pair of assists.


Xavior Coaxum, T.J. Horton, and Trase Fezzia added five points each for Cartersville, followed by Cade Archer with five; Tiamon Pennymon four; JKobe Orr and Kameron Whitfield with three; Daunta Bryan two, and Travon Davis one point. Horton added a pair of rebounds with three assists and two steals. Fezzia pulled three rebounds. Pennymon, Kameron Whitfield, and Orr grabbed two rebounds each.


Camden Royal and Justice Hayes led the Wildcats with eight points apiece. John Adams and Jaylen Ballard scored six each. Brady Jernigan scored five. Jonathan Pritchett, Trevor Knowles, and Julian Rocket added three points each. Grant Richards, Jaden Pressley, Jarvis James, and Chandler Taylor all scored two points for Woodland.


With the victory, Cartersville improved to 12-4 on the season. Woodland is now 3-14 overall.


Woodland has a home game with Rome Friday (7:30pm) before traveling to Dalton Saturday for a 4:30pm start.


Cartersville plays at Northwest Whitfield Tuesday (7:30pm), followed by home games with LaFayette Friday (7:30pm) and Kell on Saturday (4:30pm).
