Cass teams swept at Sequoyah


The Cass High School basketball teams were swept in a pair of Region 7AAAAA makeup games Wednesday night at Sequoyah.


The Lady Chiefs and Chiefs remained atop the sub-region A standings with their wins.

SEQUOYAH GIRLS 53, CASS 15

The Lady Colonels trailed from the onset against a Sequoyah defense that made it difficult for Cass to get good looks at the basket. Sequoyah took a 14-4 lead after one quarter and stretched that lead to 32-5 at the intermission.


Ayssa Cagle led the Lady Chiefs with 15 points. Kelley Hartman scored seven points. Peyton Satterfield and Lauren Hartman both added five points. Jana Morning scored four points for Cass, followed by Jaclyn Hazelwood and Esmeralda Thomas with three and two points, respectively.


The Sequoyah girls remained undefeated in region play at 10-0. The Lady Chiefs improved to 19-3 overall.


The loss drops the Lady Colonels’ season mark back to the .500 mark at 11-11. They are 3-8 in Region 7AAAAA.


Cass hosts Dalton Friday.




SEQUOYAH 69, CASS 48


The Sequoyah defense made it difficult on the visiting Colonels Wednesday night on their way to a 21-point Region 7AAAAA win.


The Chiefs never trailed, leading 14-8, 35-17, and 52-25 at each of the three quarter stops.


Jake Sunday led Sequoyah with 16 points. Jordan Usher added 14 points, followed by Hunter Gaddis and Mitchell Peters with 10 points each. C.J. Bennett scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Colonels, followed by Jacquez Milles eight points, Jake Collum six points, and Mike Sims finished with five points.


Sequoyah improved to 9-1 in region play and 15-7 overall. The Colonels slipped to 9-12 overall and 3-8 in 7AAAAA.


Cass hosts Dalton Friday.
