Excel edged in OT


TEMPLE GIRLS 40, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 31


The Excel Lady Eagles lost a tightly contested, non-region matchup with visiting Temple Tuesday night, 40-31. The Lady Tigers held leads of 18-15 at halftime and 27-26 after three quarters.


Nisha Doby led Temple with 16 points as the Lady Tigers improved to 5-17 on the season.


Excel was led by Whitney Harris with 11 points. Anna Lane Hattaway followed with eight points. Brighton McCollum and Rylie Boston scored four points each. Kalli Beth Scheff and Xena Enos chipped in with two points apiece.


With the loss, the Lady Eagles are now 11-13 on the season and wrap up their regular season at Christian Heritage in Dalton Saturday. The game is scheduled for 6pm.




TEMPLE BOYS 62, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 57 (Overtime)


Excel took visiting Temple to overtime Wednesday night in a non-region matchup, but the Tigers edged the Eagles 62-57.


Temple, playing without senior, 6-foot-7-inch center, Peyton Applegate, held slim leads at each of the first three quarter stops, but Excel tied the game at 49-all at the end of regulation.


The Tigers led 15-13 after one quarter; 29-26 at halftime; and 38-36 after three periods.


Javin Boles scored a game-high 31 points to lead Temple as they improved their season record to 19-3. Briahious McPherson scored 12 points, followed by Alvin Doby with eight, and Nick Lonas with seven points.


Darius Thrower led ECA with 23 points, followed by Chris Hale and Latrel Jones with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Caleb West added three points. Joseph Cuomo and Max Rowland contributed two points each.


With the loss, Excel is now 12-12 and will wrap up their regular season slate Saturday night at Christian Heritage in Dalton. The game is set for a 7:30pm tip.
