Bartow 10U girls capture GRPA District 5 basketball title



The Bartow County 10U girls all-star basketball team won the Georgia Parks and Recreation Association’s District Five championship Tuesday night (Feb. 23) by defeating Rome #2 in the championship game, 29-7.


Campbell Rogers was the game’s leading scorer with 12 points for Bartow. Mikaela Jackson scored nine points for the locals, followed by two each from Zoe Casey, Naxyria Roberts, Julia Shinholster, and Alexis Woods.


Bartow advances to the state tournament to be held in Brookhaven. The opening game for the new District 5 champs will be Friday, March 4 at 8:45pm against the winner of District 4.


The 10U Bartow Blue All-Stars defeated South Cobb #2 40-10 Tuesday night in the District 5 semifinals.


Bartow Blue was led by Ramarion Pace with 13 points. Jakaden Barkley, Nic Kennedy, and Mason Pharis scored four each for Bartow, followed by three each by Zantivian Brown and Jaylen Scott. Jayden Foster added two points.


10U Bartow Blue plays South Cobb #1 for the District 5 championship Thursday, Feb. 25 in the Houston Suggs Gym at Hamilton Crossing Park. Tip is scheduled for 7pm.


The Bartow 8U boys lost in the championship game of District 5 Tuesday night. South Cobb captured the district title, 39-5.


Ja’Kai Baldwin scored four points for Bartow and Jarrett Scott added one.


Bartow County will be hosting the 8U girls and boys state tournaments beginning Friday, March 4.


Bartow 8U girls and Whitfield County 8U girls will represent District 5 in the state tournament. South Cobb 8U boys and Bartow Blue 8U will represent District 5 in the state tournament.
