Woodland girls cross country team captures Ridge Ferry Invitational; Lady Cats' Clymer takes ind
The Woodland varsity girls cross country team dominated the Ridge Ferry Invitational in Rome Saturday. The Lady Cats took five of the top seven places and defeated second place Heritage-Catoosa by 76 points.
Woodland freshman Carli Clymer won the girls’ race in 19:38.15. She edged Bremen’s Grace Clements by just under five seconds.
Bremen girls finished third, followed by Rome and River Ridge.
Cartersville placed 13th in the girls race and Cass did not receive team points. The Lady Colonels fielded only two runners.
Eighteen schools fielded full teams to earn points. There were 134 runners in the girls’ race.

In the Ridge Ferry Invitational boys’ race, Pickens took the championship with 78 points. Calhoun was second with 122 points, followed by Rome, Adairsville, and Cartersville to round out the top five teams.
Woodland finished 7th in the 22-team race. Cass had only four runners and did not post a team score. There were 173 runners in the competition.
Jason Blankenship of Cedartown, a junior, won the 2016 Ridge Ferry Invitational in 17:14.97.
