Lady Colonels pick up road win, Excel Lady Eagles edged by one


Jana Morning's 17 points led the Cass Lady Colonels to a road win over Walton Friday night and the Excel Lady Eagles went to the wire at North Cobb Christian School.



CASS GIRLS 57, WALTON 38


The Lady Colonels took control of their game at Walton Friday night with a strong third quarter and held on for a 19-point road victory.


Cass led 15-14 after one quarter and 32-20 at halftime. The Lady Colonels extended their advantage to 49-31 after three periods.


Jana Morning (photo) led Cass with 17 points. She was followed by Chanel Clemmons with nine and Lyric Curtis, Esmeralda Thomas, and Payton Stoddard with eight points each. Kyla Michienzi chipped in with four points. Breanna Stephenson added two points and Aaliyah Curtis one.


Khamari Whaler led the Lady Raiders with 23 points.


Walton remained winless at 0-9 for the year.


Cass (6-3, 3-2 Region 7-AAAAA) will face Cartersville December 28 in the opening round of the Chattooga Christmas Classic in Summerville.




NORTH COBB CHRISTIAN GIRLS 40, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 39


The Excel girls basketball team held leads of 6-4, 17-16, and 30-28 at the end of the first three periods, but struggled to only post nine points in the final period in a one-point loss at North Cobb Christian Friday night.


Both teams struggled at the charity stripe in the final period. North Cobb Christian made only one of six free throws in the fourth quarter and Excel converted only five of eleven.


Gabby Mills and Mary Claire Norman led North Cobb Christian with 18 and 15 points, respectively.



Excel was led by Whitney Harris (photo) and Kalli Beth Scheff with 11 and 10 points. Rylie Boston added seven. Brighton McCollum and Landry McCollum finished with six and five points, respectively.


North Cobb Christian improved to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in Region 6-A.


Excel (5-3, 1-1) will take a holiday break before hosting Trion January 3.
